Stealing from Wizards, the kinder, quirkier, queerer, Canadianer magic school series. Read the complete quadrilogy: Pickpocketing Burglary Kidnapping Arson Wizards, thieves, and misfits engaging in high adventure and petty crime. Stealingfromwizards.com #booksky

I can, but I stitched it down to some support material. I was concerned that the smocking stitches might pop if I stretched wrong.

Forgive the cat hair, my dear assistant Hypatia was EXTREMELY helpful in the production of this vest.

Just finished a Gideon the 9th inspired spooky season vest. What do you think (about the vest, not the fact that I look like John Green failing to fit in at a My Chemical Romance concert?)

Jebus cripes zoomers, you need to stop wearing track pants to interviews. What are you even thinking?

They’re a 10 but they can be a little…too creative.

Sometimes we do our best work for extremely silly reasons. I helped produce some of these images, and I think the first might be the least distressing.

Nope! I put them up for free quite intentionally. I'm thinking of producing a paid version, but for now, they are a gift to the world.

Indie author monthly despair pit: Online sales trackers reset, and we have the unfounded dread that nobody will ever buy our books again as we stare into the void in the middle of that zero. 😭

Screenshot of monthly orders from Amazon, currently at zero since it's the first of the month and none have yet been processed.

I've always loved familiar stories, I think it started with McCaffrey's fire lizards. Mine are inspired most by recent edition D&D familiars, magical constructs.

If you want to hear me go off on ahistorical button representation... well you're probably the kind of person who would enjoy this podcast.

Screw you hippie.

Half my feed was Noisy replies, and I was about to make fun of you for shirking your work to scroll bsky... then the hypocrisy hit. I'm a go back to doing my job. 😖

Oh! You splurged and bought the fresh fruit. I saved 10k yesterday by getting my zucchinis from the "festering rot pile" discount bin.

Slight disagree. The bull may be capricious, but has no malice, greed, or the capacity to choose differently.

@stealingfromwizards.comSep 16, 2026, 3:35 PM

And I think that speaks to the quality of Muir's work. The prose and characters draw you in and keep pulling you forward while drip feeding you lore and bludgeoning you with narrative shifts.

@stealingfromwizards.comSep 16, 2026, 3:20 PM

Oof. That's good.

@stealingfromwizards.comSep 16, 2026, 2:55 PM

I'm talking specifically about Gideon, not the series. And yes, it's a mystery, but it doesn't tell you its a mystery. It's breaking so many writing rules, expertly.

@stealingfromwizards.comSep 16, 2026, 2:26 PM

Why does it work? Muir's prose is so lurid and the POV's voice so strong that you don't notice the incongruity behind the shifts. Also, the blood and gore is built into the setting. All the goth necromancer nonsense obscures the transition to horror. I am so annoyed at how good Muir is at this.

@stealingfromwizards.comSep 16, 2026, 2:26 PM

Everything about the first chapters tells us that Gideon is a hero's journey space opera, then a third of the way through that gets entirely derailed into a locked house murder mystery, and then explodes into a last girl slasher. IT SHOULD NOT WORK!?!
