Don’t feel guilty! I usually take comfort in the fact that being sick is the only time I allow myself to watch dumb movies and series all day :-)

Very true. This is not unique to the tech hype cycle. A lot of ideas (e.g. the nation state, religion, community, or a specific scientific theory or field) only become manifest through enough people behaving as if they did in fact exist. But in tech, the ideas just have become dumber every year. 🙈

Totally agree about the community part. But disagree that it all becomes moot after AI, after all AI doesn’t do community. But this stuff quickly gets philosophical.

I’m on the Following feed as well, but sometimes struggle to keep up. Do you just accept not seeing older posts? Or do you maintain extensive mute and block lists?

Sure, but I was thinking more along the lines of how great it would be to move JS libraries off the main thread, without them having to support that explicitly. But maybe that wouldn’t be possible, not even with this implemented?

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 8:14 AM

Do you think there is enough of a community around to keep maintaining the deno CLI?

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 8:07 AM

Interesting! Would this open up a future where we could just load in JS (with a special import or <script> tag) that would then run in its own thread instead of the main one? Or would the script itself need to opt-in?

There is Japanese Tea Ceremony :-)

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 7:27 PM

Wouldn’t that be appearance: none; or..?

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 3:04 PM

The kids call it “fetching” these days 😅

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 3:01 PM

Yeah, teams using up all their energy on wrangling the complexities of their “tech stack” that they never get around to the most important thing: is their website even usable?

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 1:35 PM

Maybe. Definitely a new powerful tool in the “attackers” toolbox in this everlasting game of cat and mouse 🤷🏾‍♂️

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 1:26 PM

If somebody wants to pirate a game, seems there are a lot easier ways to run it than decompilation? Regarding ArtCraft:

Mastro would only need $98k!

Until the SaaS app is too enshittified, or the open source library abandoned because the developer burnt out. Then the cycle starts anew. Because most software is a commodity nowadays. Perhaps the calculus of build vs buy has shifted a bit, but I’m convinced it’s only a tiny, tiny bit. 🤷🏾‍♂️

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:57 AM

LLMs are just the latest in a long list of developments that made it cheaper to produce average software. The more things change, the more they stay the same. When having to choose, consumers and enterprises will continue to default to what everyone else is using.

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:57 AM

There are millions of free or cheap apps on the app stores, open source programs or libraries on GitHub and package managers, and webapps in your web browser. In fact, there are so many that nobody has the time to install and evaluate all of them for their given use-case.

@mastrojs.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:57 AM

The commoditization of software has been ongoing for decades: higher level languages, faster hardware, open source, the internet, the web, app stores, LLMs – each made it dramatically easier and cheaper to produce and/or distribute software. Conversely, consumers have been flooded with software.
