"The media industry has reached a critical juncture," says Game Developer veteran Chris Kerr, who has just launched the subscription-funded publication Vertical Slice. Kerr says we need to "dispel the notion that journalism is a low-grade commodity to be consumed freely." https://bit.ly/4hWds51

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

Post from Ezra Levin:

❗❗❗Mark Zuckerberg's meta just suspended the No Kings Instagram account. I just rushed back from my local No Kings to jump on this.

Bottom line, would be helpful for all pro-No Kings folks to elevate the issue and help us get the word out about No Kings today. The Nerd Reich strikes again.

TikTok has banned the entire Musk film account, citing political content that violates its policies. The move, which comes just as the Alex Gibney’s investigation into Elon Musk expands to more than 470 screens across North America, raises concerns about Big Tech suppression that the very film seeks to expose.

A bad update: we're getting reports of pro-No Kings creators who have been suspended today as well. And we still lack backend access to the official No Kings account. Stay tuned, will report news when I have it.

Full update from our team. We STILL do not have admin access to the account.

The No Kings Instagram account has been reactivated, but administrators have not yet regained access.

We now know that Meta pulled down the account. For approximately 90 minutes, Meta did not respond to our team, even as the account was offline at the peak of our national day of action and livestream. The account is now viewable again, and Meta told us in their response email that they made a bad call.

However, administrators are still unable to access the account, blocking our ability to post about an ongoing day of mass action for early voting. Meta is currently not allowing the team to log in using the No Kings email address originally associated with the account. The team is troubleshooting that issue now.
This is not OK.

This is part of a much bigger concern: activists and movements around the world are increasingly vulnerable to decisions made by powerful technology platforms that can determine who gets heard and who gets silenced.

We will close the loop once our team is fully back in the account. This remains a developing situation.

A $250,000 deposit for a car whose total cost you don’t know, whose final specification is not set, and in the case of the “Rocket” configuration will never be road legal… I don’t know what’s funnier, the morons buying it or the morons saying ‘the jump jet feature is handy when roads collapse’ 🙄

Every now and then I come across something that makes me wish for the old days of Twitter when I had 60,000 followers because I want to tell as many people as possible about it.

Space Pizza from @garypinkett.bsky.social is one of those things. Absolutely brilliant new game for the ZX Spectrum Next.

A retro gaming demo at an event stand. A white-clothed table holds a black Sinclair ZX Spectrum Next computer and a 4:3 Checkmate monitor on a curved birch wood stand, with a Creative soundbar underneath glowing blue. The screen shows the Space Pizza title screen: the game’s name in orange and pink gradient letters on a starry blue background, above a menu reading “1: Start normal game, 2: Start expert game, 3: Redefine keys, 4: Options, 5: Leaderboards, 6: Sync scores”, and “Published by Atomic Windmill” at the bottom. In the foreground, a person with long curly brown hair, seen from behind, rests a hand on a black Immortal Joysticks arcade controller with a red ball-top stick and two red buttons. Space Pizza stickers, holographic Immortal Joysticks stickers, and business cards for Immortal Joysticks and Arcade Parts UK are scattered across the table. Small Space Pizza signs sit on top of the monitor, and a banner with large purple pixel-style lettering hangs behind.

The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force. Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon. Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.

@portlandken.bsky.socialSep 19, 2026, 9:33 PMReposted by @merman1974.bsky.social

To put that into dollar terms: Oregon residents are now paying $1.6 billion more for electricity than they were paying just 5 years ago, which comes out to roughly $950 extra per household per year. Alternately, that $611,000 from the pockets of Oregonians each year for each data center job.

Or as Dr. King put it: "It is not only moral, but it is also intelligent. We are wasting and degrading human life by clinging to archaic thinking... The curse of poverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization..."

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Lifting everyone out of poverty with UBI + UBS is the morally right thing to do, but it's also economic good sense. It is very costly to let poverty exist. The wealthy are willing to let us all pay those costs and use poverty as a stick.

Aliens

Electric Dreams’ Aliens captures the film's tension surprisingly well. The graphics are solid, and the split-screen viewpoints, creeping dread and fear of what’s around the corner make it genuinely atmospheric. Claustrophobic, tense and very effective.
