boxd.itA ★★★★★ review of Je T'Aime, Je T'Aime (1968)When Resnais was in his pomp, I think his films were the most ingeniously edited out of all the nouvelle vague cinema. Je T’Aime, Je T’Aime is proof of that. A jigsaw puzzle of a movie that is probabl...

Mark Cousins unfolding his plan for The Story of Documentary. We were shown the chapters on the 1990s, and the whole 16 hour version will screen at the BFI in February. As always, it was fascinating. #LFF @dogwoofdocs.bsky.social

Ha! Yes. It’s HUGE but very rewarding. Schama is an elegant writer.

He is a very articulate, urbane presenter. Perfect for the format and narrative history

Have had my share of strange and wonderful cinemas here in Berlin but this one in a graveyard must top the list...

Fine. I walked for a reasonable distance today. Tiring but necessary. Sitting at home was driving me nuts! Thank you for asking 👍

It possessed a cachet as I grew up (due to the riots and its pop culture referencing by The Smiths), but beyond that, I knew nothing of its workings (weird or no!).

🤣 It has been moved into a shelf that is near to hand… 😎

160 odd pages in and… There’s a LOT of white dudes in this book. To be expected, given the author (maybe), but for somebody with pretensions to voracious cultural appetites, it is still disappointing and very much undercuts his worth as a 20th Century commentator.

Agreed. Rarely has there been a more incisive, sometimes barbed, but always humane writer in 20th Century/21st Century prose than Didion.

Eccentric, Kevin. You gain the privilege of the more benign epithet through your erudition and garrulous humour. I’m the crazy one 🤣👍😎

I used to find writing so therapeutic. It took time and effort and revision but it soothed sometimes too. I miss writing nonsense for audiences that did not exist 🤣😬
