I wrote about JD Vance and his new memoir, which is somehow worse than his earlier one: www.thenation.com/article/poli...

No one suggested that only misogyny was the issue and if you follow me, you’ve seen me complain about this behavior before along other lines

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 4:58 PM

That’s not to say he wouldn’t be rude to Bernie but those of us who are women who’ve worked in finance have seen this language before and it’s rarely directly directed at our male colleagues

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 4:57 PM

I doubt that. If Bernie was a famous expert on corporate bankruptcy (as Warren is) I don’t think he’d call him financially illiterate. Accusing women who are well known experts of not understanding their own field is sexism 101

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 2:44 PM

The misogyny in this letter is appalling and if Bessent had ever sent something like this to a woman colleague in the private sector he’d have been sued for gender discrimination and fired. What an asshole

A letter from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, and a member of the Senate Finance Committee:

This is an appalling and chilling state of affairs and though this article never states explicitly how Trump is the catalyst of the escalation of incessant domestic terror in public life it leaves zero doubt about it.

Nor can they anticipate what they might lose if they choose a more affordable school over an elite institution if they're capable of getting into both.

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:35 PM

The thing is, the kids always have to take a guess and a risk unless they already have full scholarships. They can't realistic know what their job prospects will be afterwards, even if they choose to go into a high earning field. No amount of debt counseling can reverse that

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:21 PM

And i think they're designed to punish lower income kids for rising above their station by going to college

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 4:54 PM

Morally fucked up how the rich get rewarded for making themselves richer and the world worse. You took out student loans and are still paying them off? You're financially irresponsible. Nearly run a multibillion dollar company into the ground? Here's your hundreds of millions in severance.

An amazingly stark example of how the US economy has broken: Zaslav clears nearly a *billion* dollars amid a CEO tenure where he made basically anything he touched worse, harmed multiple prestigious brands, led huge layoffs—but delivered a corrupt merger for shareholders. variety.com/2026/tv/news...

This looks like a carjacking. I think any reasonable person would hit the gas.

RAaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 1:12 AM

The NYPD just released surveillance video of the ICE shooting (which occurred off camera). Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driver’s side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.

It is nuts that you can’t even ethnically cleanse a voter’s entire family without losing that vote to Dumocrats, must be terminal cases of TDS

Not gonna disagree 😂

@espiers.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 4:32 PM

And frankly I don’t have to engage with that kind of bad faith response. So I’m muting you. Goodbye

And your hubris (and possibly your sexism) leads you to believe you understand my argument better than I do
