Illness has struck the Queen City Improvement Bureau!
No new episode this evening! But, CJTR will re-broadcast last week's episode on the AI datacentre w/ Simon Enoch.

7pm on 91.3FM CTJR @accessnowradio.ca #yqrcc

I watched an environmental activist argue that you couldn't zone their single-family home neighbourhood to allow for 4-plexes b/c any potential teardowns would release "embodied carbon" and also trees would have to be cut down (they wouldn't… she just made that up). #yqrcc

@pauldechene.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 6:05 PM

I watched a progressive university professor who claimed to study social justice issues argue their neighbourhood was already "full" of affordable rental so the project should be moved to an affluent suburb.

You can't just move a project you don't like. You're just killing it! #yqrcc

re: thread from @timquerengesser.bsky.social

I can't count the number of times I've seen supposed progressives fight tooth-&-nail to stop multi-family housing at Regina city council. In addition to what's below, they'll argue multifamily = more cars & so more emissions & less safe streets. #yqrcc

Do a legal.

Assuming they're a Canadian adult in Regina, they get a vote. #yqrcc

Facebook comment on Regina Rant and Rave
UnforgettableWolf4456:
Is there anyway to do a legal get these councils and mayor out? Like all that seems to be done since Chad has become mayor is everything keeps rising dramatically.

Another great way to learn about city council is to start showing up at council meetings & present on issues that matter to you. You'll learn how council works. And by taking questions, you'll know better what kind of questions you'll want to ask as a councillor. #yqrcc

So if you want to run for Regina city council and you don't want to look like a no-nothing doof during your campaign, you could start following council now! #yqrcc

@pauldechene.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 10:53 PM

The first two years of this council have been… fitful, to say the least. Even today, they're still very much learning what they're doing.

These last two years, starting w/ the 2027 budget, are where they'll define their legacy & set up whatever the returning councillors will run on in 2028. #yqrcc

Other great resources for potential council candidates:
• I live-tweet most Regina city council & committee meetings as @pdcityhall.bsky.social
• Aidan & I put the QCIB, our weekly city-focused radio show online at queencityib.com — there's nearly 11 years of city council content there. #yqrcc

You can watch city council meetings online through the Access Now TV channel on youtube. #yqrcc

BTW… if you're thinking about RUNNING for Regina city council in 2 years, this year's budget (in December) would be a really good jumping on point if you want to learn what council involves and what the major issues will be for the 2nd half of this council. #yqrcc

@pauldechene.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 10:13 PM

This is solid information for Regina too! (Although our municipal election isn't for 2 years.) #yqrcc

This week on the Queen City Improvement Bureau, Aidan & I'll be talking about today's meeting & looking back at the 5 meetings worth of budget preview we've received & there'll be the usual nonsense. Thur at 7pm on 91.3FM CJTR @accessnowradio.ca #yqrcc

@pdcityhall.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 8:36 PM

And if you're curious about what my view on the meeting was at 10:30am today, I did a Council & Coffee live stream which you can view here. Talks about water utility, Buffalo Pound & Economic Development Regina. www.youtube.com/live/FNTmpzw... #yqrcc

Council is now going on their latest mandatory break.
I'm going to bounce now and do something else.
Thanks everyone for following along. Always enjoy the company. #yqrcc

Vote on city's lead program report: unanimous. #yqrcc

@pdcityhall.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 8:35 PM

Flores: It has been frustrating to work with the province recently. So I don't anticipate we'll see an improvement on this. I hope we can be more creative & audacious on how we deal with this. I want us to be a city that gets to safe drinking water at a faster pace. #yqrcc

@pdcityhall.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 8:34 PM

Flores: Reality is many impacted people won't be at the outreach opportunities. But it comes back to whose jurisdiction it is. Dealing w/ landlords is provincial responsibility. But we already regulate short term rentals, for instance. #yqrcc

@pdcityhall.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 8:33 PM

Flores: To me, this is something that warrants more urgency b/c at end of day we see this impact folks in our community who are less likely to advocate for themselves. I commend work that's been done on outreach. #yqrcc
