STATUS — 7 OCT: 1 unexplained death. 0 publicly confirmed plague cases. 0 demonstrated secondary transmissions. A reported second pneumonia case remains unconfirmed. The central unanswered question is still the cause of Shipilova’s death.

The original exposure theory remains unverified. Reports said Shipilova may have broken a tube containing pneumonic-plague bacteria on 25 Sept. Russian authorities say no pathogenic-material accident occurred.

#PesteNeumonica #Rusia #Irkutsk #OMS #SaludPublica #Europa #Espana #YersiniaPestis #Siberia #Sanidad…

"Scientists outside Russia who work on plague emphasize they, too, have heard very little solid information and are hoping for more transparency soon."

As a full member-state, isn't Russia supposed to keep the WHO updated?

Why some #YersiniaPestis strains remain highly virulent is still not fully understood.

This study shows a conserved 33 kb prophage alone cannot restore #virulence and introduces the first #BAClibrary to advance genomic research.
