What an event this week!
Adjacent neighbours & others came to support. Passing walkers & wheelers enjoyed the #safety on their route - one dad & passenger even did a joyful wiggle down the street 🚴😍

Yesterday I did 43 miles on 5 different #bikenyc trips during the day for #WorldCarFreeDay!

Today I just got beat up so badly into the wind for 3 miles on a standard @citibikenyc.bsky.social I may not get back out there. It’s really blustery!!!

@flightfreeuk.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 8:18 AM

Imagine if we could do this with flights too.

#WorldCarFreeDay shows us what is possible: cleaner air, better lives. Sustainable choices shouldn't be a one off, they should be how we live.

Less flying, more future. It's the same principle. ✈️❌

This is a project I've had in the works for a while now and I figured #WorldCarFreeDay was a good time to share it.

This idea came to me while watching longform lightly edited videos of cars driving around in Asia and I thought this would be cool to do for bike rides around Chicago.

Two years on, NOTHING HAS CHANGED on the street itself TO MAKE IT SAFER, although we understand plans are now afoot. We hope they lead to meaningful change and safer streets for everyone.

We’ll keep campaigning for streets where people come first. 🚶‍♀️🚲

Two years ago today, we turned Upper Highgate Street into a Play Street and remembered four year old Mayar Yahia, tragically killed by a driver.

Two years on, the street is still no safer. We hope the council delivers the changes proposed in tribute to Mayar.

This #WorldCarFreeDay, why not leave the car at home and discover the natural world another way? 🚌🚶‍♀️🚆

Colchester's Natural History Museum is easy to reach by public transport, walking or cycling, making it the perfect stop for a car-free day out in the city centre.

Happy #WorldCarFreeDay 🙌

All year round, #CommunityRail works to encourage more people to embrace greener, inclusive travel 🚵🚄

Ditch the car and choose the train, bus, tram, walking, wheeling and cycling - it means better connected communities with healthier futures 💚

One does not simply drive alone.

This #WorldCarFreeDay, choose shared transportation. 🚌🚲🚊 Fewer cars can = less congestion, a stronger local economy, & more people & businesses on the move.

APTA Fact: Every $1 invested in transit generates ~$5 in long-term economic value.

@johnmunro.bsky.socialSep 22, 2026, 5:47 PM

#WorldCarFreeDay should be an opportunity to reflect on how local car culture drives global climate breakdown, resource extraction, and inequality.

Cities have such an important role to play in addressing the crises of our times. And yet....

@ben.fiets.ukSep 22, 2026, 5:39 PM

It's #WorldCarFreeDay today? I missed that - I guess other people missed the "free" part of it since traffic was much higher than normal this morning - on a nice, sunny, and warm morning too.

"Public streets can serve people of all ages, incomes, and abilities." — Holly Hixson 🚲🚶‍♀️

This #WorldCarFreeDay, we’re looking back at our resource on why car-free streets build safer, healthier, and gender-inclusive cities! 🚫🚗

🔗 WomenInUrbanism.ca/words/car-free-streets-benefit-everyone

Car-free street filled with pedestrians walking in both directions, with trees, buildings, and event tents lining the road. Text reads: ‘September 22 | World Car Free Day. Car-Free Streets Benefit Everyone.’ Labelled as a Think Piece. See caption for details on where to read the blog. The same car-free street photo with a dark green overlay and white text on coral backgrounds. Quote reads:

“Public streets can serve people of all ages, incomes, and abilities...through careful planning, appropriate investment, and thoughtful community activation.

I urge cities of all sizes...to investigate how public space can serve as more than just a place to pass through or store personal vehicles.”

Attributed to Holly Hixson, author of Car Free Cities Benefit Everyone.
