Time travel for cells? Almost. 🧬⏪ iPSC technology lets researchers reprogram adult cells back to an undifferentiated state, so they can become nearly any cell type.

This gives them the potential to become any cell type found in the major tissues of the body.' Includes an illustration of a dictionary.Relevance card explaining that Dr. Amander Clark at the BSCRC is using iPSCs to model the development of human reproductive cells and to better understand the mechanisms behind infertility. Includes a photo of Dr. Amander Clark, as well as illustrations of cells and laboratory glassware.Diagram explaining that the term pluripotent comes from the Latin word for 'many' and the Latin word for 'powerful'.

🌎💙 The word of the week is convivial. It sure would be nice if we could remember that we're all on this floating blue rock together, and we'd strive to be much more convivial. 🤝😊

Text of poem on background of a photograph of blue sky with scattered clouds:

My Trusty Steed

Galloping beneath blue skies,
you toss your mane against the flies.
You race the wind and will not lose,
upon hooves shod with shiny shoes,
running rings around rainbows,
flying faster than your foes.
You seldom shy and rarely rear
unless an arrow should appear.
I brush your coat and buff your horn
and ride no horse, but unicorn.

Thanks as always to @thetoypress.bsky.social for a new #wordoftheweek. Here’s my poem based on the prompt.

The Barn Hand
(for Kara)
She had three socks and a star
The beautiful bay who nibbled
Baby carrots and lumps of sugar
From the palm of my hand
On muggy summer afternoons—
I could have stayed there forever
But there were stalls to muck
And fresh bedding to lay
Before the stable master returned

Horse

He coughed and neighed and said ‘No, no,
I'm too small for this course!’
She replied, ‘Here, have a throat lozenge.
you're just a little hoarse.’

Text of poem in Comic Sans font on sky-blue background:

I wish I were a superhero

I wish I were a superhero,
above, and soaring high,
or swooping down to save the day—
no one would call me shy.

I wish I were a superhero,
then I could disappear
and not be told to raise my voice
“so everyone can hear.”

I wish I were a superhero,
clever, quick, and fast.
My presentation would be done,
and I’d sit down—at last!

Text of poem:

Boreal words to define
An evergreen tree is a pine.
To prowl like a fox is vulpine.
To howl like a wolf is lupine,
but also a flower: lupine,
a sweet mountain bloom—that’s alpine.

I LOVED this week’s #wordoftheweek from @thetoypress.bsky.social . Here’s my poem.

#writingforchildren #poetry #kidlit

The Fox

She looks like a bit of flame
Creeping her way through
The tall summer grasses
To the edge of the creek
Where she will gaze longingly
At the flock of water fowl
Dabbling on the far bank
Dreaming of a feast
So close, and yet, so far away
