It's been great working with #woodlandtrust staff Pete Leeson and Steve Hebblethwaite on this high level tree planting exclosure at the top of Wrynose Pass. Even a small(ish) site like this has a wide variety of conditions to deal with - soil type, exposure, deer...

Borrowdale, Ash and Holly. The overall tree canopy colour in Borrowdale is still green. The birches and alders are going but not that much else. The bracken is well underway however and conspires to make things look autumnal even with the amount of green. #lakedistrict #leofoto #woodlandtrust

White ash tree against oranges of bracken. On the right there is a rich green holly with vibrant red berries.

Picture a Scotland where ancient woods thrive, rivers are lined with native trees, farms work hand in hand with nature, and everyone has access to the benefits of trees, wherever they live. That's our vision for Scotland.

This and 3 others at Drovers Retreat holiday cottage on the Welsh Borders are included in the #WoodlandTrust UK Ancient Tree Inventory, which includes an interactive map which will show you such trees near you. ati.woodlandtrust.org.uk/tree-search

Clue:

Although it’s owned by #treeloving Sutton Council and managed by #WoodlandTrust, unusually, I haven’t specifically come #treehunting

not even for this fine Horse chestnut (which I’ll save for #thicktrunktuesday 😉 )
