Belated #WildlifeWednesdays:
The Museum recently started to put up new window decals to help further reduce bird-strikes. We've focused on observed problem areas and used pleasant plant-motif decals.
Can you identify some of the native plant species depicted in the decals?

A dusty window with a clear imprint from a bird strike. In this case, the bird had thankfully been able to fly away. The Train Shed Exhibit Hall roll-up door windows with the Story Walk on the lower row and the leaf decals on the next two rows up. One of the new, blue picnic tables sits between the doors. The now-decorated rows are the windows that reflect the most forest, thus the ones the birds would fly into most frequently.

Back at it again, little guy doing its part to manage the weeds for this week's #WildlifeWednesdays

The same rabbit from the first post, now in a different spot near the parking lot. It is actively munching away at grass and weeds in the small plot, nestled between a giant railway wheelset.

Look who's getting all dressed up for Halloween Train, only a couple weekends away!

Our local garter snakes come in a surprising variety of stripe colors: green, yellow, orange, and sometimes even blue!

Two garter snakes, either northwestern or common, coiled up together near the Conservation and Restoration Workshop. The larger of the two is the focus, black with orange stripes. The smaller one has the typical pale green stripes.

A cute little guy with no survival instinct to speak of. This young bunny is a resident on campus that has helped with managing weeds this summer!

Small wild bunny with a tiny white spot on its forehead. It sits in front of a red concrete curb and continues to eat grass, aware but unbothered by the photographer standing about 5 feet away.

#WildlifeWednesdays? More like WOOLY BEAR WEDNESDAYS! We've spotted the first of the season around here!

These are fuzzy and thankfully harmless to handle. They have no spines or irritating hairs - unlike other fuzzy caterpillar species in the country.

A black and orange fuzzy caterpillar crawls up a concrete surface.
