It’s another #WildflowerWednesday - these popped out after our recent inch or so of rain and are everywhere — I think it’s a siena but am not sure which.

The American Black Currant has smooth, small, and reddish-purple to black berries. Gooseberries and currants are both in the "Ribes" genus, but to see the difference, look if there are spines, thorns, or prickles. If so, it’s a gooseberry, but if not, then it's a currant! #WildflowerWednesday

Watercolour painting of a cutting from a plant. The branches have spreading green leaves and bell-shaped white-green flowers. Handwriting at the base of the cutting reads, “N.C. / V.22.10”.

Happy #WildflowerWednesday! 🌼 Orchid Edition ✅

Meet Cynorkis cinnabarina, a flower without a common name! This species is quite rare and is mostly found in higher altitude grassland and shrubland in Madagascar.

A Cynorkis cinnabarina orchid growing in front of sparse grass clumps with white quartzite gravel in Ivohiboro, Madagascar. The wildflower itself is slender and greenish yellow, with individual flowers cover the entire plant.

Three bees, one flower.

#WildflowerWednesday #NativePlants

Somewhat unusual, as the bees usually battle over the flowers. Today I saw multiple huddled together on several flowers. Maybe it was related to the extreme heat? I think they are all ladies, a male tried to disturb them a bit later.
