Whumptober Day 11: Too Weak to Cry / Grief
#whumptober2026 #octoberartchallenge #ocart #originalcharacter #illustration #angst

A digital illustration of Nash from Unnatural America. He's wearing his tactical uniform, and holding a lit candle in his right hand, a vigil for the friends he's lost. His expression is distant, somber. Copies of him fade away in the background, blurred almost beyond recognition.

day 9: lab rat

#whumptober2026

a snippet from a linked fic. it reads: “I mean you no harm. I only wish for brief sanctuary. I can offer my gifts in return.” The Cuckoo tilts her head the opposite direction as the chimera had. “May we… be friends?” The chimera takes a sharp step forwards, and the Cuckoo hops back. The chimera pauses, like they weren’t expecting her to react in such a way, and they snort in frustration. Bloodied claws flex in their sockets. The predator paces back and forth with an anxiety that the Cuckoo simply never had programmed in her mind. a picture of cisone as the cuckoo, a miqo'te looking allagan construct made for infiltration. she has just awokenin one of the labs, the cuckoo (with her book out) glances towards a mysterious elf in the distance. an allagan orb that is fully not mentioned in the fic hovers at her sidenow a miqo'te, the unclothed stranger watches as the cuckoo is hurt by an electric current

#whumptober2026 #ocart #originalcharacter #whumpart #blood #art #octoberartchallenge #illustration

A digital illustration of Jericho from Unnatural America. He's lying on his back in the desert, propping himself up on one arm and struggling to wrap a bandage around his waist with the other. He's bleeding from a wound under the bandage, and he has a sharp grimace on his face as he tries to patch himself up. The long shadow of a saguaro cactus falls over him, suggesting that this is happening at sunset.

day 8: non-fatal drowning

in which sicard is pulled from certain death

archiveofourown.org/works/939673...

#whumptober2026

a snippet from the lined fic. it reads: Sicard’s skin prickles where it lays against splintered wood. He’s freezing cold with the sea air touching all the vulnerable spots that had just been submerged, including his lungs when he finishes coughing out all the water he can. There’s a heavy hand on his back that hits him hard in imitation of a new parent burping a stubborn baby. With a gross exhale of phlegm, Sicard can finally breathe, albeit with immense effort and pain. His breaths wheeze, but at least he can take them again.

in which emmanellain writes a letter

archiveofourown.org/works/939673...

#whumptober2026

a snippet from the linked fic. it reads: Steph used to write his siblings, back when they were in Camp Broken Glass. He called them too, often, but didn’t want to wake anyone up with the drastic differences in time, so much of the short free time he had were spent writing letters. Did he write Artoirel too? Emmanellain did not know the nature of their relationship until after everyone returned from full-time posts in Garlemald. Artoirel’s hours had always been odd anyways, so there must’ve been little worry in waking him up. He heard Steph make mysterious calls to his mysterious boyfriends several times, and surely that was enough for them. Even still, has Steph ever written Dear Artoirel, and meant it? Did Artoirel have a box of little notes from his beau in a box under his bed? Would they have been buried along Stephanivien if he died before the Final Days were abated and their relationship became public? Would this letter be buried with Emmanellain when they find his body?
