Happy World Octopus Day! We’re going to go on record with something controversial and say, in our opinion, you’ve likely been calling a group of our eight-legged friends by the wrong name. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #WorldOctopusDay

A new federal proposal would narrow the Clean Water Act's scope, no longer making it illegal to pollute or drain nearly any wetland. It would put clean drinking water and the country’s most important habitats at risk. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #WetlandWednesday

We have said for years that ocean plastic cannot simply be hauled out of the water in a mass automated process, because marine life is often entangled, encrusted, or floating on or beneath it. It is not just ocean and coast cleanup; it is habitat protection and restoration. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean

“Marsh is not swamp. Marsh is a space of light, where grass grows in water, and water flows into the sky. Slow-moving creeks wander, carrying the orb of the sun with them to the sea.” —Where the Crawdads Sing (Prologue) #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #SundayBookQuote

More alarming news in the ‘Plasticene’ Era: From the seafloor to turtle stomachs, we are finding plastic everywhere we look for it! Now, researchers in Japan have found plastic thermally adhered to coral rubble, termed “plasticoral.” #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean

Estuaries are identified as critical points where invasive marine species can move inland, increasing ecological vulnerability. Invasive marine species can reduce biodiversity and alter ecosystem functions, affecting coastal resilience and resources. #WetTribe #TideotheOcean

Estuaries link land and sea, but rising seas could enable over 100 non-native marine species to colonize newly flooded coastal areas by midcentury. #WetTribe #TideotheOcean #Research #FridayFieldUpdate #Estuaries #SeaRise #InvasiveSpecies

Only 30% of the US coastline is beach; even in beach-famous states, California is 28%, and Florida is less than half of its coastline. Today, we're working to reach that greater half. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #CoastalCleanup #Paddleboard #Kayak

#WetTribe is hitting the coast early, with a squad rather than a platoon; however, we plan to make every dollar count by employing some force multipliers. We made an agreement with local municipalities to recover the filled bags behind us. #CoastalCleanupDay

Scientists estimate that at least 1,000 sea turtles die each year due to entanglement in plastic; that is an average of more than 1 turtle every 9 hours! Young sea turtles are especially at risk of ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic pollution. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #TurtleTuesday
