A Leaf of Me
My father charts the hours. I become a twig. I'm the only kid on my school bus with rusted wings. I take up two seats. I don't want to go. My mother writes my absent notes in broken Polish. I'm loosening my collarbone. I'm lonely in my tree. The moon is a shattered kneecap, sappy and slow.
Pantheon

lisping sullen on the tide
a funny end to the dream vacation

a nest of three joined redwood trunks
speak to me in rainbows
source of all our loveliness

remove the veils o statues
dust on a sliver of the light

I am diamond-minded
down a jade green velvet tunnel

the perfect apple still believes in bananas

o irises in the field
look how they spin!
Q&A

Q. How thou come aside this fizzled gristled day?

A. With hatchets and cleavers, said no one ever
     said everyone never.

A. Yet again, A. Here cometh clammy pulchritude.
     Hoist your items, chillun.
Poet of an Ordinary Heartbreak

Who hasn't been tempted by the sharp edge of a knife?
An ordinary knife cutting ordinary tomatoes on an ordinary slab of wood on an ordinary Wednesday.
The knife nicks, like a bite to the soul. A reminder that what is contemplated is as real as the blood sprouting from a finger. As real as a bruised eye.
Instead turn back to the meat stewing on the stove.
Scrape pulpy red flesh into the heat and turn.
Say: even this is a prayer. Even this.
Rot and glory
Watching the fierceness of
vegetables hiding among
the cashy leaves. Suddenly,
Ho! Santa Claus! What a plucky
old fella you are. Here,
have a squash.
The mockingbirds resume.
I mean sing, of course. It is
because I asked for it,
for my one present. This one.
Right now. Listen.
PLUS DOME

As I watch the moon wax
again tonight I’m thinking of you
Bubbles your trusses of riveted
girders. Let’s start
with autobiography. There are two
distinctions I want to make
My bluebook was blank
now chiclets steady stream
all aboard daily. Thank heavens
I think it’s real. Knock knock
the milkman bears reference
tracing the rim a river
of O. Pounding that foghorn
all the way to Watsonville
grape jelly in the whiffs

Around Now

Autumn. Auuuutuumnnnnn, hum the big
trees silently to themselves and each other.
Auuutummmmnnnn. Whish of cold breeze
releases more leaves which click together
softly as they land, percussing the humming.
It is not a time to make noise, people.
But, God love ya, you will anyway.
Ah, people, ah trees. Kinfolk.
Love Poem

The ancient crater lake is
Brimming with burning volcanic
Letters formed in its gray
Sky by flocks of bees.
This isn’t true, but
Neither are you, dear,
Budding phlox, piece of work
Wrought from flesh. You’re in my
Limbic system, and your
Soul slumps out at me like
The lingonberry tongue of a cow.
GRASS

What good is it comprising myself
softly as the bemused colored fish?
Do I think I'm the beautiful pants?
What a desolate street!
Why are the swamp weeds
tickling me
How could I be killed
if I'm the duck who wipes away
the dark holes made
by bullets as I continually displace
energy, pulling through snowing clouds?
Upon a Time

The cigarette lighter
is filling up fast, oh don’t you miss
those good old tapioca emails
on the chocolate internet
of malls? That dog won’t hunt
says the real old-timer, chomping down
on his vape stick, listen,
there was a bird
once.
Moonset At Sunrise Is
burning the candle at both ends
why not use commas dashes semicolons the whole lot
Fantasy of Grief

You have to watch out
For yourself. Your mind
Does not value life.
It has a taste for sweetness
Beyond ripe.
Feedback Harmonica

Sing
like an animal
do around the yard
of taller things

Oh look, a fruit!
Breakfast almost finds
face time.
