#WeevilWednesday: a weevil in peril!!

(It has fallen onto the web of a grass spider. I decided not to interfere with nature.)

#bugstodon #insects #beetles #weevils #Coleoptera #Curculionidae #Entiminae

A pale beetle with a short, wide snout with two elbowed antennae coming off it, flailing on its back on a barely visible sheet of spider silk. A log fence rail is to the right.Another angle of the weevil. Note its large feet. It may be an Asiatic Oak Weevil which I also photographed in the vicinity.A further-out shot. Its feet are tangled in the silk. The web inhabitant clearly wasn't that hungry.

big steppy

For #WeevilWednesday, I think this little buddy from High Park is an Asiatic Oak Weevil (_Cyrtepistomus castaneus_).

A broad-nosed weevil walking along a log fence, in profile. Its somewhat pear-shaped body is a dark reddish-brown but covered with pale, slightly green-iridescent scales. Its elytra are grooved and covered with small fine hairs. It has a stout, whiskered snout with long elbowed antennae coming off it, and round black compound eyes. One clawed foot is raised.

Passend zu den karibischen Bananenplantagen im Index hab ich jetzt auch mal ein Exponat, wenn auch nur gezeichnet, zum #weevilWednesday :D

Kleine Skizze eines Käfers mit auffälligem Rüssel. Cosmopolitus Sordidus - englisch: banana weevil

Acorn weevil for #SciArtSeptember 14, "crescent". I actually did start this on the 14th so I'm too impatient to wait another day for #WeevilWednesday. 😛

Mixed media experiment (watercolor pastel, colored pencil, & gouache) on paper, ~13x14cm.

#SciArt #BugSky #invertebrates #insects #ArtSky

Painting in tones of red, orange, purple, and olive green, depicting a round insect with boots and snoot perched on the curve of an acorn cap.

it's #WeevilWednesday

black vine weevil (_Otiorhynchus sulcatus_)

#bugstodon #insects #beetles #weevils #Coleoptera #Curculionidae #Entiminae

A robust, roughly pear-shaped black beetle with a pebbly, shiny exoskeleton with small irregular patches of lighter brown scales and, of course, a snout (short and broad with antennae coming off it). It is on a flattish pale stone surface. The same weevil from a slightly more overhead view. You can see both of its good-sized round black compound eyes.
