Another comment about #WeAreAllTryingHere: the core romance had zero spark. The ML seemed to feel agape. He worshiped her. The FL felt… idk? Philia? Close friendship? No eros in the room, that’s for sure.

I finished #WeAreAllTryingHere. It was good but not great. Excellent complex characters and fantastic acting. My main complaint: although the ML says his main goal in life is to live while laughing, this show never once made me laugh. The serious parts I enjoyed. The “funny” parts I endured.

Watching #WeAreAllTryingHere and enjoying the way each character is struggling in different ways. But you know what’s missing? Kids. None of these characters has small children, and that’s a whole other layer of complexity when trying to reach professinal success.

I’m on episode 8 of #WeAreAllTryingHere and Hwang Dong-man steps out of his catering job to check his phone and I thought “in any other show that would be a smoke break” and then it hit me that in any other show Hwang Dong-man would be a chainsmoker, and probably half his friends too. Oh, kdramas.

I was wondering why the hangout in #WeAreAllTryingHere is called Agit. Clearly a loan word. I wondered if it was a mistranslation of the French word for “act.” Nope, it’s from Russian and it’s commonly used in Korean to mean “a cozy hangout place.” Well, that makes sense.

I don’t know which is more unrealistic, a watch that names your emotions, or 8 college friends who still hang out - and work together! - in their 40s. But hey, I’ve seen stupider premises (body swap? time travel?) so I’ll wade through the fake to get to the very real emotions in #WeAreAllTryingHere.

I was going to watch a movie tonight but after I baked these lemon-ginger drop scones for tomorrow’s potluck, I only had time for half an episode of a kdrama. So apparently I’m now watching #WeAreAllTryingHere. I’ll report back how it goes.
