Chicago's corncobs - Marina City, brutalist geometry, rhythm and shadow in B&W. Home to legendary radio station WCFL, "Voice of Labor," 1965-1985.

Black and white architectural photograph of the Marina City towers in Chicago, nicknamed "the corncobs" for their distinctive scalloped, cylindrical concrete form designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg. Low-angle view emphasizing the repetitive curved concrete balconies spiraling up the tower. An American flag on a pole is visible to the left. High contrast monochrome composition highlights strong geometric patterns and rhythmic shadow. The commercial building of Marina City was home to legendary Chicago radio station WCFL, "Chicago's Voice of Labor," a 50,000-watt AM station broadcasting on 1000 kHz. WCFL moved into the 16th floor of Marina City's office tower in 1965, switching to a Top 40 format that year to compete directly with rival station WLS, and remained there for the next twenty years until the mid-1980s. The station also maintained a "VIP Room" on the fifth floor where its on-air DJs hosted listener events and record parties. Optimized for Marina City architecture, Bertrand Goldberg brutalism, Chicago radio history, WCFL Voice of Labor, black and white architectural photography, and Chicago skyline landmarks indexing.
