My #walktober wanders always include the #Barbican - today it wasn't the architecture that caught my eye, but that even the City's citadel can't escape the parched #grass of the #heatwaves! (If anything, worse than most places, as the flats shield it from the rain we've since had!)
#London

A grassy park area is parched, with the ground mostly light brown and only patches of green. There are greener trees and bushes around, and brutalist flats surrounding it.

#Walktober week 2 theme is The Great Outdoor Scavenger Hunt (Oct. 9-15). Find 3 specific items during your activity (orange leaf, a sign, insect, bird, or colorful plant). Post a collage or photo containing the items found during the week. Most importantly, keep moving! #LIUNA

Always nice to see a new face when on a #Walktober wander through the City.

Walktober Day 8 | Advocacy needs a pathway to action. At @moveredmond.org's Walk & Talk, AVIV ScoutRoute connected community observations to OS-CONNECT infrastructure data. From being heard to being able to act. Help sustain OS-CONNECT. tinyurl.com/TCATSignUp

Walktober infographic from the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology (TCAT) summarizing Move Redmond’s October 2, 2026 Walk & Talk. The event brought together 33 participants to examine walking and rolling conditions. Using TCAT’s AVIV ScoutRoute and OS-CONNECT, the resulting report documents 21 observation notes across 5 changesets, 14 identified infrastructure problems, one consensus hotspot supported by 5 reports from 5 voices, 2 locations surveyed well, and 20 survey answers: 16 crossings, 3 survey-point answers, and 1 bench. A not-to-scale schematic map of Redmond shows observation locations near downtown, the transit center, and Marymoor Park, alongside illustrations of walking and rolling environments. Reported concerns include missing sidewalks, difficult pedestrian and bicycle crossings, inaccessible seating, and connectivity barriers. An anonymous observation reads: “Dangerous intersection image next to the sound transit station. Lack of sidewalks and access to both the south and the west.” A four-step diagram illustrates TCAT’s approach: community observations → mapped, asset-level concerns → action packets → advocacy with planners and elected officials. The infographic emphasizes OpenSidewalks and OS-CONNECT as interoperable data foundations for measuring, improving, and maintaining accessible pedestrian infrastructure. It concludes with a call to support OS-CONNECT continuity and sign up for TCAT updates at tinyurl.com/TCATSignUp.

Today has been a day of many walks. Seven miles west to Clapham for running shoes, just now out to a local open mic night. But the best view was Canada Water's glowing red bridge and the deal porters still lifting wood into the night ( #sculpture by Philip Bews)

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Watertower.

I love these little glimpses of the #industrial past of #London that surround us.

@transpochoices.bsky.social & @snotrac.bsky.social Att'n to SR 99/Aurora is 👍! OS-CONNECT gives WA the baseline needed to compare how different nondrivers reach essential destinations & turn evidence into plans.
🍂 #Walktober: what corridor do you want to see next?
tinyurl.com/TCATSignUp
#OSCONNECT

Infographic Alt TExt: Infographic showing how OS-CONNECT corridor analysis compares three nondriver travel experiences along the SR99/Aurora corridor from Edmonds to Lynnwood. The header reads, “How OS-CONNECT, created by TCAT for the state, turns CORRIDOR data into accountable bike/ped plans?” A large title states, “One Corridor, three very different nondriver experiences,” followed by text explaining that the same 10-minute travel budget reveals different freedom of movement depending on traveler profile and that disconnected networks prevail. Three profile panels appear side by side: UN, Streets allowed, with a bike icon; SO, Sidewalks only, with a walking icon; and LM, Limited mobility, with wheelchair and cane-user icons. Below, three comparison cards show reachable network and access metrics. UN (unsafe) Walk in streets: 99.2 km reachable network in 10 minutes, 623 crossings reached, 87 other points of interest, 6 bus stops (median), and 3 disconnected networks. SO Sidewalks only: 32.5 km reachable network, 603 crossings reached, minus 17 percent other points of interest, minus 17 percent bus stops, and 8 disconnected networks. LM Limited mobility: 27.9 km reachable network, 520 crossings reached, minus 33 percent other points of interest, minus 40 percent bus stops, and 28 separate networks. Each card includes a small corridor map from Edmonds to Lynnwood and a legend for reachable area, SR99 segment, and study envelope. A footer panel says, “Support OS-CONNECT continuity. Tell us which corridor to show next,” and adds, “Help us keep Washington’s accessible walking and rolling network current, open and usable.”

A #walktober lunchtime wander down Brick Lane, looking for lesser spotted #StreetArt.
I found a tiny gallery at foot level, a spider crossing the Truman Brewery, an intense face looking through… something? And an ex-pub that opened over 200 and closed over 30 years ago

In the space of a single removed brick is a model gallery with people and art inside, a black and white tiled floor, a sign saying "The Wee Tiny Gallery" and a poster saying 'On view: Holly Welch'A sculpture of a spider walks along a brick wall with a blue sky behindStreet art on a part-ruined wall of a woman's face looking through snow or bubbles and fronds of some kind.An old pub sign carved into red brick has the words "YE FRYING PAN" and two frying pans with their handles crossed.

I'd already done my #walktober walk today, then spotted such a sunset on the way to the shops that I had to chase it
And in doing so, found a #bat! (my first half-decent photo of one!!)
I found a bit of the #sunset too, though it was hard to thread it between buildings

At some point in my flaneuring, my perspective shifted away from 'A to B'. Early on, I was looking for Interesting Things, then I realised EVERYTHING is interesting and wandering was about experiencing that.

Today I have been appreciated the faded golden #beauty of #rust

One of the things I love about wandering this wonderful city is that every #cat in #London is mine, if only briefly.

I ❤️ photographing #sculptures – something static you can change the look of by light/angle/perspective/etc. Much like a play's script is static, but its story can be told so many ways

Laurence Olivier statue by Angela Conner on the #ThamesPath by the #NationalTheatre – a fitting start to #Walktober

Night photo of a dark statue of a man holding a sword by the blade with hilt raised up, silhouetted against a brightly lit red building.
