Voting is a bus. Might not go how fast you want or to your door, but if it gets closer to your goal, you take it. A bus going farther away, or that suddenly changes directions? Probably not your bus. Here's my bus picks.

I had not visited Chris Alexander's campaign website until today. I wish I had, it's hilarious.

“There is no point in having a heavy police presence [Bradford’s plan], if people still cannot get on the Dufferin bus.”

@swanboatsteve.bsky.social endorses Olivia Chow for reelection.

Epilogue to the Epilogue: two people in two separate cars force streetcar with 25 people in it to wait an extra light cycle.

If we banned left turns on streetcar tracks it would make a better city.

Looking through the driver’s cab of a TTC streetcar at two cars trying to turn left, and blocking the rails in front of it.

Epilogue: once the bus got through, we zoomed down Dufferin until a driver stopped in the lane, with a police officer moving him. Enforcement! Then a car waiting to turn blocked us, so the bus driver stopped & stared while car reversed. Shame!

When RapidTO lanes stop north of Bloor, buses carrying 50-100 people each end up trapped and unable to move because of 1-2 cars, for multiple light cycles.

Ask council candidates whether they’ll extend RapidTO as originally recommended!

Photo of Dufferin southbound at Bloor, with the inner lane painted red for transit priority actually empty amazingly, but two cars are near the far end of the lane trying to get out of it (correctly). Two buses wait behind the cars.

Alexander about the drop out. If he endorses Bradford things get more stressful.

An excellent review of the various ways you can measure city spending, and the receipts on why Brad Bradford is lying about the city's budget too.

This is bad: Brad Bradford campaign is using an app that gives supporters points for handing over your contact info without your consent, breaching their own privacy policy.

Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford’s campaign appears to have breached its own privacy policy — and possibly the Municipal Elections Act as well, a Canada's National Observer investigation has found.

Its campaign tool, called the Victory App, was the subject of a CNO investigation last week for its use of AI to locate online discussions about Bradford, generate comments for supporters to post and then reward them for posting comments like, “Brad, you’ve actually stood up for us — don’t let them say you haven’t tried.”

But another aspect of the app also raises questions: specifically, its lack of safeguards for voter data. The app at one point let volunteers search for Torontonians by name and see their home addresses and, in some cases, phone numbers. The origins of the data on the app remain unclear, but supporters were told on a campaign call that their contacts would be matched to the official voters’ list. One tag for data in the app was called “Voter List September26.” Screenshot from later in the linked article which reads:

‘You don’t need to freak out about this’

Introducing Bradford’s supporters to the app on the Zoom call, Punia instructed them to give the app permission to access all of their contacts.

“Do not give it partial contact ability, give it full. And what I want to say to you guys here is, you don't need to freak out about this,” said Punia. He reassured them that only contacts they marked as known or potential Bradford supporters would be given to the campaign.

One attendee hesitated as she had over 2,400 contacts on her phone. She was instructed to give the app access to all of them and mark them one by one according to their level of support for Bradford.

“They don't know that they're in the database,” Punia said earlier in the call. “They will not receive anything. They will not know anything.”Screenshot from later in linked article which reads:

‘This is unheard of and should be regulated immediately’

Under updates to the Municipal Elections Act, candidates are for the first time required to obtain a written acknowledgement from anyone they share part of the voters’ list with that they understand the restrictions on its use.

The Bradford campaign’s privacy policy also requires this for all personal data.

However, Canada’s National Observer was not asked to sign a written acknowledgement to access the Victory App, including its “Search and Add” and “Neighbours” functionalities.

Inside the app, tags were visible showing the origins of the campaign’s data. These included door-to-door knocking and SMS campaigns, as well as two entries entitled “500K Craig 10 Jul 26” and “Voter List September26.”

Canvassed with Viamonde trustee this weekend. She said many errors in voters' list: longtime French board supporters switched to English in the system, so they'll get the wrong ballot election day!
