We were grateful to attend a session at #VOCALIS2026 exploring the role #Europe can play in plugging in-situ monitoring gaps in the #Arctic, strengthening ocean monitoring, and improving current and future #Copernicus missions.

From 21 to 24 September, the altimetry community met in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, for #VOCALIS2026, the workshop on Validation of Operational #CopernicusEU Altimetry over Land water and Ice Surface.

Fantastic @ESA-EO #VOCALIS2026 workshop about validation of altimeter missions over ice surfaces in Longyearbyen, Svalbard last week. Gunnar presented about synergies with #CIMR, the upcoming Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer.

Day two of #VOCALIS2026 has wrapped up in Svalbard

Sea ice and land ice sessions covered freeboard, snow depth, ice sheet validation and new #Sentinel-3 FRM results from Antarctica, all feeding into #CRISTAL Cal/Val preparation.

Tomorrow: inland waters and Copernicus in-situ.

#VOCALIS2026 opened yesterday in Svalbard, and runs until 25 September
@esa.int , #NOVELTIS and #UNIS bring together the CRISTAL IN-PROVA and ST3TART-FO teams to validate #Sentinel-3 and prepare CRISTAL Cal/Val over sea ice, land ice and inland waters.
