Quick little harvest before the cold weather

I've had better squash years, but I've also had worse ones

Tomorrow I will be cutting all the flowers to share them

#VegGarden #GrowYourOwn #GardenSky 🍂

Variety of pumpkins

I harvested everything that passed the fingernail test, and while these don't have the dark stems which would mean they would last all winter in storage, I know a kitchen that can use what I can't!

I'm SOOOOO excited, even though there was only one, I got a honeynut! I'm really eager to try them and was a bit heart broken I might have to wait until next year

I will report back if I think they're worth growing instead

The other is a butternut

No varieties to share because I don't know what I was thinking but I used small tags & can't see what anythings is. I've already got bigger tags for next yearI had one popcorn that fell over a few weeks back so I harvested that just because I'll be cleaning up this area if we do get a frost

They aren't quite ready, but I think they should dry in the kitchen? We'll find out

The rest will be fine outside through the cold like feed corn I grabbed all the ornamental peppers as I'm suprised they even look so good as we had a 3C night last night

The colourful firecracker peppers (short and stubby) are going to chili flakes - a suggestion from my friend, we'll see how much of their colour they keep

The skinny Fire & Ice will go to a hot sauce ferment

Couldn't resist any longer & snuck a peak at some of the popcorn,

It's looking pretty good!!

#VegGarden #GrowYourOwn #GardenSky 🍿

Very carefully pulled back the greens on the cob trying not to disturb the silks, just enough to see the popcorn kernels are growing well & germination looks alright!

These will be ready to harvest soon

Still a little nervous about how complete germination was, but I did my best!

Popcorn is starting to look good

Unfortunately the neighbourfields have soybeans, if it had been a corn year we'd have had great germination

I did grow this pop corn in a row instead of a square because that is the space I had, but that is not the best way to ensure germination - corn is wind polinated which is why you need the germ to blow onto the tassles

I shook stocks or otherwise spread the germ onto the tassles by hand

garden netting is all about mesh size: 0.8mm stops cabbage whites and carrot fly, fleece handles late frosts, and bird netting should stay within rspb-safe mesh so wildlife can't get tangled. full ranking by pest: ukpicks.co.uk/garden/best-garden-netting-uk #veggarden #gardening

Looking great for the garden in September,

Dahlias are going gang busters,
My favourite peppers have ripened,
Cosmos still aren't even budding
Coleous have gone wild

Dropped off garden gifts to some friends & came home with some more

Gardeners really are the best!

A dahlia arrangment I made for a friend, we split shipping on some Canadian made pressure socks, because we're old ladies Mix of Hungarian wax, cayenne & habanero peppers

It was the hungarian wax and a habanero I gathered for another friend, her mom was from Hungary and her plants didn't surive

The cayenne is for a fermented cayenne hot sauce I will be making soon A gift from my friend who I gave the peppers to, a chamomile & she made me a wildflower mix from her flowers! <3

So sweet & I'm very excited to add these to my wildflower area

Inspired by Hugh Richards' book 'Veg in One Bed', I'm keen to keep growing what I can during the autumn.

Well that's a bit better!

Gardener cred restored

I didn't plant many potatoes so I'm happy

#VegGarden #GrowYourOwn
#GardenSky 🥔

Yukon gold as big as my hand, there are couple of these & russets this large Small hanging basket full of potatoes

I got a few really big ones, not a lot of medium sized ones and lots of seed potatoes for next year

But the bed isn't turned all the way over because I still have marigolds in it I don't want to pull yet
