🫙 Washed, brined, sliced, grated, whizzed and mixed up a load of ingredients fresh from the McTavish Manor Gardens.

I have a 🌶️ paste, mixed in all of the garden veggies, and then filled a jar that is now fermenting at room temp. for 24-48h.

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

A mix of Kimchi Peppers, Onion, Garlic and Ginger, whizzed up in a blender to form a rich red Chilli paste. This is poured out into a rice flour ‘porridge’ that I cooked and cooled separately. This is all mixed up in a white bowl. Off to the side is a clear glass bowl full of sliced and grated garden veggies, with carrots most visible at the top. After the veggies are mixed into the spice paste porridge we have a white bowl full of mixture, sat atop a dark chopping board, with a bunch of brined and washed Chinese Cabbage off to the side. The Chinese Cabbage has been liberally smothered in the Chilli paste and garden veggies mixed, then crammed into a sanitised square glass Kilner jar with a clip top, sat on a dark chopping board on a white kitchen worktop.

🥬 I’m planning on making my own Kimchi and have been eyeing up the phattest Chinese Cabbage in my patch for a while now.

Decided to hack it out, see what I’ve got.

These are the best examples I’ve managed to grow so I’m pretty pleased today ☺️

A large leaved Chinese Cabbage growing in a patch amongst some Spring Onions and Pak-Choi. There are lots of spreading outer leaves giving it a wide sphere of dominance, and there’s a chunky head right in the middle. A few holes are dotted around but mostly it’s looking clean and pest free.A hand holding a freshly picked and tidied up Chinese Cabbage over an outdoor picnic bench. It’s a tight head with white ribs and light green leaves wrapped around the core.

🍅 Officially called time on the 2026 Tomato Season today, after the garden teardown reached the last of the Toms.

I took off everything that has coloured enough to hopefully ripen in the bowl, and cut up all the plants.

All over until we go again 2027

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

A yellow bowl and a square plastic tub placed side-by-side on a white kitchen worktop. Each is filled and brimming over with a multitude of green Tomatoes that I hope to finish ripening off the plant. A few are quite coloured already, but many have some way to go yet.

🌧️ Woohoo! Waking up to some persistent rain tinkling down. Hoping it lasts a while today 🤞

Have opened up the garden, uncovering beds that desperately need refreshing.

🌶️ Last of my primary 🌶️ Chilli Care Package 📦 deployments packed & launched 🪂 towards its recipient this lunchtime, after making another pass through plantlings 😅

Now I wait on rest of harvest to ripen.

📮 Postage went 🆙 yesterday 🥺

🌶️ A handful of pods that I’ve bagged and packaged up this evening 😰

Still got lots left to harvest and I wasn’t able to fit everything shown here into the boxes - the Poblanos at the top in particular were way too large.

Another harvest, more 📦 to go

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌶️🌱

A large collection of plastic tubs and glass bowls arranged in a rough grid on an outdoor picnic bench. Most tubs have a single variety of Chilli but a couple double up when the distinction between varieties is very obvious. There are a few Sweet Peppers and Ancho Poblano too, which I was hoping to squeeze into the boxes, but there was simply no room.

🌧️ Looking at the weather forecast praying that there is some rain soon.

Every single one of the water butts are empty now - I was even leaning them over to get a last dribble out.

It’s October, not July 😬 though my water problems start April/May now.

🎃 Okay, turns out that I forgot a plant when I was accounting for all my Squash this season 🤦‍♂️

Oddly enough this v.Harlequin was a spare that I bunged in an empty spot. Got a few heart-shaped fruit from it ☺️

This really is it for 2026 though, all done.

🥬 I try to grow Chinese Cabbage every year, with very mixed success.

This year I have some fine looking examples, probably because I got the timing right. So I foresee making some Kimchi in the near future 🤗

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

A peek through some butterfly netting at a patch of Chinese Cabbages and Pak-Choi, with the camera focused on one particularly fine looking example that is obviously hearting up in the middle of a broad bunch of lush green leaves. There are very few nibble marks or issue with pests.

🌶️ The high water mark has been set by @chillichirps.bsky.social, who first recommended this variety to me a couple of years back.

My “Fruity Volcano” pods are now staring to ripen. Must remember to count them this time! 😆

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌶️🌱

A “Fruity Volcano” Chilli plant basking in the sun with a plethora of pods growing on it, many that are now starting to turn lipstick red. Many remain green, and the odd purple “Buena Mulata” pod sneaks in from the left hand side.

🫑 The garden teardown continues.

Today I cut down all the covered 🍅 plants, harvesting what was good to use, making a batch of sauce from a tub.

Then I moved a whole bunch of potted 🫑 plants into the covered space. Harvested another tub too.

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

A bunch of Sweet Pepper plants bunched together in a tall but small temporary glass house that used to house a bunch of Tomato plants. A hand holds a clear plastic tub in the lower-right corner that is full of red, yellow and orange snack-sized Peppers. There are plenty remaining on the various plants in here for a future harvest.

🌶️ Sliced up some garden-fresh Jalapeño Peppers for lunch, gouging out the seeds so I could stuff with 🧀 and bake them 😋

Obviously I have since rubbed my face and I am regularly reminded of this tasty lunch as it is still feeling quite zingy 😅

🍆 I’ve had a proper bountiful harvest of Aubergine this year - still plenty left, I can’t eat them fast enough 🤢

I decided to save some seeds from an overripe fruit, and popped a single seed into a small pot as a viability test.

Boom! A sprout.

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

Three items placed on an outdoor picnic bench in the early morning sun. In the lower-left there is a white packet of Aubergine v.Bonica seeds originally from Sea Spring Seeds. Next to this white envelope is a clear plastic baggie filled with lots of home-saved seeds from this same variety. And above the two seed packets is a small red pot filled with compost, in which the cotyledons of a single seed have sprouted after being left outside for a couple of weeks.

This tells me that my saved seeds are probably viable, as I wasn’t sure if I’d need to leave them longer. An experiment that I’ll continue next year.

🌱 Planting out Turnip seedlings in a spare spot of ground now that I’ve cleared away the 🎃 plants.

One packet of seeds is older than the other.

Entirely expected, I really just sowed that second tray (at the back, w/ more cells) as a test case.

👨‍🌾 #Gardening #VegetableGrowing #GrowYourOwn 🌱

Two module trays filled with Turnip seedlings placed on an outdoor picnic bench. At the front is a 28-cell tray filled with lots of seedlings of v.Tokyo Cross, while behind is a 40-cell tray that has very sparse germination, v.Snowball. I was not expecting much from the latter tray, hence I sowed a lot more seeds across many more cells to try and increase my chances of success.

📋 In May the garden ToDo list is enormous, with many hours of work required to get it ready and planted for the season ahead.

Now that we’re in September the teardown process has commenced.

🎃 are ripped out, 🍅 are starting to go, 🌻 end today.

✂️ Misplaced my garden snips. Walked my recent route around the garden several times. Looked in odd places.

Knew they’d turn up eventually.

Sat down to read a book and only then spotted them *at eye level*. I’d left them ready for next job 🤦‍♂️

🫙 Made a couple of jars of a sort of Chilli/Tomato ketchup/relish thing for 🥪

Grabbed a whole bunch of assorted 🌶️ and Spring 🧅 from the garden, along with a punnet of 🍅 that needed using up. Cooked with some seeds/spices before blending up.
