Deep-sea mining a good idea?

My latest attempt at research communication. I sat down with Professor Park to review a youtuber's video about deep-sea mining. Link to research in description

Lots of fantastic opportunities to do an 8-week (paid) research internship with my colleagues in the School of CS at #USyd!

The projects I am proposing are
CS2026-27/10 Pseudo deterministic Quantum Algorithms
CS2026-27/18 Feasibility of Quantum One Time Programs
but the whole list is worth is read!

Installed easily (only Windows/Mac supported), borrowed a game (free), and now about to try Schrodinger's Cat Burglar! If I'm happy with it, I may incorporate it in the new Quantum Computing course I'm teaching next year at #USyd as a side resource.

Professors at the University of Sydney were caught plagiarizing. That—and #USYD's failure to hold its faculty to the same ethical standards that it demands of its students—is outrageous. Don't you agree, Australian Research Council - @arc-gov-au.bsky.social ?

Constructing artificial agents operating with unmeasurable uncertainty. The project aims to develop new methods to help digital systems make decisions when there is too little data to rely solely on probabilities. This kind of uncertainty occurs, for instance, where human behaviour or unfamiliar terrain is unpredictable. Expected outcomes of this project include tools for building and checking decision-making systems using ideas from mathematics and computer science. This should provide a unique benefit for the automatic design of systems that do not have access to enormous amounts of data --- a critical aspect that few AI approaches can handle --- and so should support advances in robotics and automated planning, and strengthen Australia’s contribution to foundational research in intelligent systems. This projects aim to research the fundamental problem of secure distributed computing in open Internet, where network condition maybe unstable and even under attacks. Existing deployed protocols are all assuming certain good network conditions and thus will become vulnerable when moving to the open Internet. The research outcomes will include secure distributed consensus and computing protocols that will remain secure and efficient in open network. With those protocols, all services (including many mission critical ones) now maintained by distributed systems will continue offer security and resilience, and could also enable broader access to new services which now may only be maintained in in-house environments.
