The inexplorable landmass rising from the depth of the ocean, and a barrier that split the world on two

[ #Urkist #worldbuilding ]

Photo, no descriptionSpliting in two the ocean that separates Urkist and Arie. The name «Stor-brytare» is commonly used to talk about both the geographic zone and the meteorological event covering the area. Following a vertical axis from one pole to the other reside a mid ocean ridge called Odisse. This tear in the crust is slowly releasing sediments and a continent is rising from all the activity. Presently the ground level almost reached the water surface. Because of this unstable environement expeditions have been few, and we haven’t documented the potential ecosystem this place may shelter. The extreme heat from the rift produce a wall of burning steam creating a perpetual storm in the middle of the ocean. Ships bold enough may be capable to brave the raging waters. But it will be blocked by the shallow water and the burning tempest would prevent crossing the land on foot.

With the distance, the dangerous weather and the monster infested sea around, no group is interested in this place. Even I and the Guild council can’t see value there, at least for now...

Some species have been observed taking temporary refuge
in the Stor-brytare. Some cross the region to migrate, like Charibceus and Valneitar. The later have no registred nesting ground, hypothetically they could nest there as they live nearby?

Small idea for some Catarite festivities

[ #Urkist ]

During the summer, just before the Catarite new year, that the harvest begin. The end coincides with the hatching of chrysalis into butterflies. The Catarites collect tree branches that hosted the larvae. The galleries are filled with gold for the harvest festival. During the celebrations, participants gather to exchange the gold twigs. Each person poor maana into it, hoping the galleries naturally made a functional glyph. Most of the time nothing happens, then they offer it to someone else. The lucky ones get to keep the glyph, and are crowned as choosen of the lands. It is believed that they will have a good year.
