It's @helenbennett.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme today: #Green and the Alt is #Geese.

Hundreds of Pink-footed Geese at dawn over Deepdale Marsh #Norfolk and a #Twofer from #London with Egyptian Goose drinking in Holland Park.

@robcrank68.bsky.social's alt #BirdOfTheDay theme today, #Eating, had me reaching for a picture I've posted before. But it's one of my favourite sightings ever.

A Barred Eagle-owl with a tiny chick. A gruesome, but awesome sight. See alt text.

Barred Eagle-owl,Ketupa sumatrana, perched in a tree with a tiny chick in its beak, perhaps only just hatched. This bird (probably one of a pair) was something of a celebrity at an urban park in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, and locals were very keen to point out to me where to look.

There is a sweet pair of Hermit Thrushes hanging out in our backyard over the weekend. They startle easily so I wasn't able to get a photo of them together.

Sunrise on Warneford Meadow, Oxford this morning, all mist and spiderwebs.
A Linnet overhead was my 63rd species this month, equalling my best ever monthly total on my local patch

My little mascots helping me spread the word at the Wild Dundee community gathering last week about the Power of Pigeons, and how these familiar urban birds can be a gateway to nature observation and citizen science.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Elegant. Thanks @atlanticbirding.bsky.social

I've posted Medium Egret before but not this elegant individual in Benchakitti Park #Bangkok
#Thailand #birds #birding #ECK #birdsSeenIn2026 #urbanBirding

Medium Egret. A recent split from Plumed and Yellow-billed Egret, formerly known as Intermediate Egret. Smaller than Great White Egret and prefers drier habitats. This one chose a grassy area of a city park.

Wasn't sure whether to post this Large-billed Crow from #Beijing #China in February.

@atlanticbirding.bsky.social's main #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #Silhoutte; but surely #crows are always in silhouette!

It will do for #birdsSeenIn2026 anyway. #birds #birding #ECK #urbanBirding

set today's #BirdOfTheDay theme, #Mamas&Papas, male & female of the same species in the same photo. Here Mrs&Mr Ring-necked Parakeet indulge in a bit of pair bonding in #London

Steady #WEBS count at #farnleyres this morning. 4 Green Sandpiper; a good autumn for this species, 5 Snipe; starting to trickle in, Lapwing flock to 300+ and building. 43 Teal and 3 Shoveler #urbanbirding

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme: #BirdsInAbstract - a tough assignment for me from @helenbennett.bsky.social

Here the shape of a Grey-headed Woodpecker forms through a forest of twigs and branches. Taken in Beijing #China in February for #birdsSeenIn2026 #urbanBirding #birds #birding

Grey-headed Woodpecker on the trunk of a large tree, seen through a forest of twigs and branches. This species has a huge distribution across Eurasia and varies in appearance across its range. This grey-headed form in China is similar to the ones I've seen in Europe but I've also encountered the black-naped form in Vietnam and Thailand.
@jamie-brass.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 8:26 AM

I meet all sorts of dodgy characters at #farnleyres: feral kids, drunks and flashers! All part of the #urbanbirding experience.

T@thenaturalstone.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 11:43 AM

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Iridescence. I'm sure there will loads of lovely hummingbirds, etc. but I've only got a Great Cormorant that just about manages a bit of colour in the right light. The Serpentine Hyde Park #London.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay themes are #Pigeons and #SittingOnWater by @robcrank68.bsky.social

I'll take the latter with this female Mandarin I photographed today on The Serpentine in Hyde Park #London #birds #birding #ECK #UKBirding #birdsSeenIn2026 #urbanBirding

Female Mandarin. A rather tame bird on a lake in a London park. Mandarin are not native to the UK but there are well established feral populations in many places, derived from birds escaped from connections.

The last time I saw a Pileated Woodpecker was early one summer morning last year. I hope to see one again soon.
