I’d value your perspective on the male characters in *The Legend of Lady Violet and Sebastian*.

Violet has been promised to a King in a loveless political marriage. She does not go willingly; she accepts the obligation because she believes it may protect her people. The King knows that her resources are needed to restore balance to the kingdom, but the existing system treats marriage as the mechanism through which those resources—and, effectively, Violet herself—can be claimed.

Sebastian despises what royalty represents. If he seeks royal power, it is not because he believes in the institution, but because he wants enough power to dismantle the old system and free the people. He and Violet eventually discover that they want the same thing.

How do you interpret these two men and their relationships to Violet’s power?

Is the King simply exploiting Violet, or is he also trapped by a system that has taught him political necessity matters more than consent? Can Sebastian enter the structure of royalty to destroy it without becoming what he hates? Most importantly, can he help free Violet without treating her as someone to rescue, possess, marry, or speak for?

Violet would rather stand beside Sebastian in opposition to the old order than become a slave to a marriage and political system she neither chose nor believes in. Yet unlike Sebastian, she has been taught that refusing her assigned role could endanger the people she is responsible for.

Do you see the central conflict as a romance, a struggle between duty and freedom, or a confrontation with a system that gives men different kinds of power over women’s choices?
