A vertically composed dark woodland artwork centers on an aye-aye perched along a thick, nearly black tree branch. The small primate has shaggy charcoal-black fur with a halo of finer gray hairs spreading around its face. Two enormous upright ears rise sharply above its head, while exceptionally large, glossy dark eyes reflect tiny points of surrounding light. A small pink nose and delicate muzzle contrast with the animal’s dark coat. Its left hand grips the rough trunk at the edge of the scene, exposing long, curved fingers and narrow claws. One leg folds tightly against its body while the other foot clasps the branch below.

The aye-aye extends one extraordinarily long, thin finger toward a cluster of curled brown leaves hanging at the lower right, emphasizing the animal’s unusual anatomy. Damp autumn foliage frames the scene from above and below, with twisting vines and branches creating a dense enclosure around the animal. Behind it, the forest recedes into cool blue-gray mist. A hazy cream-colored moon glows through tangled branches in the upper right, softly outlining nearby leaves and catching moisture on bark and fur. Deep brown, black, muted amber, and smoky blue-green tones give the image the appearance of an aged, richly textured nocturnal painting.
