UK HISTORIC PUB CRAWL 2026
Buckingham Arms, London
We finish up the pub crawl with my “local” when I did business in London in the 2010’s. A pint, a seat by the window, and a copy of The Guardian was my evening routine.

The Dublin Castle, Camden London
One extra one today. In the 80s and 90s The Castle was the place to go and hang out in the back room with Madness, Amy Winehouse, Blur, Coldplay, and Oasis.

Since 1607 the place has seen its share of famous Oxford grads stumble out its doors. It has also figured prominently in several stories by Colin Dexter, author of the Inspector Morse series.

Ye Hole In Ye Wall, Liverpool
The city’s oldest pub (it recently celebrated its 300th anniversary), the place looks like it hasn’t changed one bit since 1726. The stories this place could tell.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, London
It will take you at least a couple of pints before you get to all the floors (don’t bang your head going down to the dungeon) in this 1667 pub. Remains my favorite pub ever.

The Wee Pub, Edinburgh
So “wee” that it can only fit 20 people inside and, as one Yelp review once noted, only if they inhale.

Built in 1792, The Scotia features the specter of the “Green Lady” who is rumored to be haunting the place in a green velvet dress, whispering to the staff in the cellars.

UK HISTORIC PUB CRAWL 2026
The Royal Oak, Painswick, England
A pub that’s been in existence since 1500’s, one located in undoubtedly the prettiest town in the Cotswolds. Come in on a rainy, slightly spooky night, and you'll never want to leave.

Dating back to the 1700s, this pub was a favorite of riders waiting for their horses at the old horse hospital across the street, and ladies of the evening who worked the area.

The Railway Tavern, Kincardine, Scotland
The tiny Railway Tavern outside Falkirk built in the 1700s has the shortest bar in Scotland. It was also a favorite watering hole of my great-grandfather, apparently.

Last Drop Pub, Edinburgh
18th century pub where condemned prisoners famously were taken for one final drink before their public hanging on the street outside. I’m guessing they all made it a double.

Greyfriar’s Bobby, Edinburgh
This 1800’s pub sits on the site where a famous skye terrier named Bobby spent 14 years guarding the grave of his deceased owner in the 19th century. I can’t even get our dogs to sit.
