I've had a great week up at Monkspath Juniors working with the Yr 3 and 4 kids to create these 3D portraits.
The school had chosen Shakespeare, Malala Yousafzai, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and the 'NASA' scientists (Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Christine Darden) 😁

Inclusion isn't always hard.

#UkEd #EduSky

Ten tips: Communicating with learners who are deaf or partially hearing.
1	Speak normally: Speaking slowly or too loudly makes lip reading much more difficult.
2	Stay still: Moving around when talking makes it much harder to lip read.
3	Maintain eye contact: Face the deaf person and try not to look away or cover your mouth when talking.
4	Use gestures: Use simple gestures to communicate where possible. Use whatever is around you to point or demonstrate (pointing is not rude in deaf culture).
5	Get attention: Try waving, tapping lightly on their shoulder or knocking on a table (waving for attention is not rude in deaf culture).6	Do not talk when facing a whiteboard: Finish writing, then turn and speak.
7	Reduce background noise: Close the room door and do all you can to speak in a quiet environment.
8	Don’t say I’ll tell you later: Deaf learners say that “I’ll tell you later” is a pet hate. They want to be as informed as their peers. If one method doesn’t work, please improvise.
9	Write it down: Use old fashioned writing to communicate.
10	Be patient: It might take time. Don’t give up!

Today, I took a trip to the beautiful Stogursey Primary School to help the KS1 kids to build a giant Ichthyosaur for the forthcoming parade. There are now pieces of Dinosaur strewn across the KS1 classroom.
Imagine the excitement and times it by ten.

I've spent three days at Sherborne Abbey Primary helping the children to create a large display for their library. We made a book with famous characters leaping out of it. 😁😮
About 300 kids have taken part, from Yr 1 to Yr 6.
How cute is this! 😁

Climbing the ladder in #HigherEducation in the UK is harder if you’re “non-White”. Moé Suzuki, part of that group, sees “insider-outsider” status as a research benefit.

In our September magazine, she describes how boosting interviews with drawing elicited in-depth responses.

So, today was the first face-to-face project of my 36th academic year of art workshops 😁
I've been helping the KS2 kids at North Cadbury Primary to create this piece inspired by their 'Evacuees' project.

Artwork created today with the KS2 children from North Cadbury Primary School in Somerset. Inspired by their current 'evacuees' project the children worked as a team to build this scene, showing two young children on a railway platform. The young boy gets up from sitting on his suitcase and bends to pick up a note or letter, his older sister walks the other way reaching for his hand and holding her doll tightly in the other. Below them, the railway tracks look like repeated army gravestones.

Mathematics education in England and Wales puts pupils who lack social and cultural capital at a disadvantage, even closing off paths to future success.

In September’s magazine issue, Sophie Harris shares her research into the inequality of the GCSE maths qualification.
