The offbeat guitar chop built ska, not the horns. But we're handing you a kazoo anyway. Come play.

"Do Nothing" by The Specials ("More Specials", 1980)
The Clash broke every rule and still couldn't crack the US charts until they went full reggae. What does that tell us about radio and horns?
The nutty boys expand their horizons & showcase their evolving songwriting skills with an album of pure British pop. Featuring songs such as Grey Day, Shut Up & Cardiac Arrest 7 "is where they revealed the full potential of their talents".

The horn section kept ska alive through every era. If you're in Eugene Oct 23, there's a brewery on every corner and live music that night. Go for both.
Ska is not background music. It is a call to action. Every upstroke, every horn line, every moment asks you to move.

"Echo Four-Two" by Bad Manners ("Loonee Tunes!", 1980; original by The Laurie Johnson Orchestra, 1961)
The Paradox at Fayetteville Amphitheater, Sep 26. Two-tone royalty. Go early, eat something good, make a night of it.
#OnThisDay 1οΈβ£9οΈβ£8οΈβ£0οΈβ£ #Madness released their 2nd album Absolutely. The album reached No. 2 in the UK album charts & spawned some of the band's biggest hits, most notably "Baggy Trousers" UK#3, "Embarrassment" UK#4 & the instrumental "The Return of the Los Palmas 7" UK#7.
2 Tone started in Coventry and changed everything. A sound that mattered, a movement that proved the horn section was never going anywhere.

Another song I taped from radio, in the early '80s, in my early teens. And that I later often listened to on my cassette player, instead of on my radio:
"On My Radio" by The Selecter (1979 single)

I taped a lot of 2 Tone songs from the radio, in my early teens, the early '80s. Including this:
"Can't Get Used to Losing You" by The Beat ("I Just Can't Stop It", 1980; original by Andy Williams, 1963)
Major label deals meant something different in 1977. The money was real, the stakes were higher, and the music had to justify it.
