#TTRPGTHOUGHTS is a great way to fill a train journey.
(Didn’t sleep well last night. Not match fit. Hope I last the day and don’t have to dib out on the evening game. It’s got 5 players - including me.)

At what point should a Formula be replaced by a Table.
Looking back on my “design career” (talk about self-aggrandisement!) I find I’ve sometimes gone over the top creating the perfect formulas to balance a game.
Let’s not kid ourselves. 90% of TTRPGs involve…

How do we stop people hoarding bennies? Should we?
The binary succeed/fail based on a your die roll feels a bit harsh these days.
So we like things a but fuzzier. If you fail you can roll again with a consequence. Or the original roll is succeed/succeed with consequence/

How “fair” should we be with opponent descriptions?
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a touchstone for many D&D players. Mainly the older OR/Grognard types. (As always I’m using the UK definition of GROGNARD rather than the US. Kindly old uncles rather than gatekeepers.)

How do you write the perfect game description for a convention sign-up sheet or web-site.
Several months (years?) ago I had the idea to write a little book about running TTRPGs at conventions. I shelved it because I felt it was arrogant & I was writing “no shit Sherlock” stuff

Is there any mileage in introducing the meta-infrastructure of media into TTRPG sessions?
I see a LOT of faux movie posters advertising APs. Bless ‘em. They’re living out their fantasies of being Hollywood superstars.
But many TTRPG game sessions are basically…

I have written a LOT of games.
Thanks mainly to @drivethrurpg.com I claim to have “published them”.
Some I love and still play at cons*. Others have fallen by the wayside and I’d don’t play them anymore.
* Bless ‘em people haven’t gotten fed up still turn up to play…

How do you overcome motivation malaise?
Boring self-centred request for motivational help today.
I haven’t published anything new in AGES. I’ve did spend ages developing and banging on about a horror game but I‘ve just stopped writing It.
I detoured into a….

How important is it for a #TTRPG “product runner” to maintain a web presence for it?
I just invented the phrase “product runner” and feel like shelving my original though for the day to explore it.
You nerds all know our favourite TV shows now have “show runners”.

Writing a starter set isn’t easy.
I’m not talking about an introductory scenario in a book here. I’m talking about a separate product you can pick up which is complete & fully playable in itself which acts as an intro to the full game.
I tried to make one once for a game.

Getting the basics right - physical production quality. Cardboard.
Following recent replies here in praise of Boxed Sets - that will be a future “Thought”.
However, we can’t discuss that without first of all addressing an elephant in the room.
Production quality.

Given that combat is no longer seems as the central, most important, of TTRPGS - we’ve evolved beyond their Wargames roots - and conflicts are resolved using the same rules as everything else in the game - is there any game that explains that well.
I don’t buy or read a lot.

Should there be an example adventure in the rulebook?
Yes, it’s Monday and so I ask a “should it be in the rulebook” question. (I don’t know how long I can keep this up.)
For me, this also covers the “should the rulebook contain pregens?“
For me it’s a clear: “Yes!”
