Not! Bad! 🤩

They had a limited number of opportunities to do big-moment stuff, and as far as explosions go, Burt says "It's gonna be big" 4-5x (lot of tension building), and then...

It is! That's big.

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

Don't get too attached to this building... or the one next to it.KABLOOMSecondary explosions. Love it. Good, solid technical stuff here. Fun to watch!
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 29, 2026, 2:21 AM

And here's day 2/2 of having Michael Gross to shoot with everyone else.

I'm being mildly disparaging, but aside from the dumb, porn-y Miss October thing, #Tremors2 is mostly making it work. It is much nicer to see Burt Gummer palling around with other characters in the same frame again.

#FilmSky 🎥

Hey! He's back with the gang. Finally. Nice to see the lads together, though these two barely know each other.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 29, 2026, 2:13 AM

It is SUPER apparent how little they had Michael Gross. He is with the other actors for one scene, and (so far) one scene only. I bet he turns up with them together for one scene at the end, too.

Otherwise, he's all in his own 1-shots, clearly shot separately from the rest.

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

These three are often together, and seemed to have pretty wide-open schedules for this.Look at this shot, lol. That's clearly a stand-in in the tractor bucket when it's over their shoulders, and they're saying they'll just splice in the stuff they're going to shot with Gross later. And that's what they did! You definitely feel it.Bless his heart. He's trying, but very clearly isn't, like, with the others. Maybe a late addition? It would make sense if they knew they would have him, but didn't get him until late in their shooting schedule.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:42 PM

Awww, I kinda feel bad for the poor, little Graboid. He's just a wee, smol boy, and he seems ill 🥺

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

Oh, noooooo, his poor, gross, huge tongue is out. Bless his... heart? Hearts? Bless his hearts, maybe?They have definitively been on Earf for millions and millions of years. Pre Cambrian, this movie confirms. This guy is not that big for a Graboid (budget? Honestly, they're killing it; this movie looks great at a very cheap price), and he might be sick.I think some of the spirit of these films is the visual, actual realization of a bunch of childish boys' games, like The Floor is Lava, or in this case, "I dare you to run and go touch that thing and run back." Like, why would you, even? But these are the realized fantasies of, like, an 8 or 9 year old boy. And I don't mean that in a bad way! I just think that energy informs a lot of the hijinks and tone and even the characterization, a bit. It's charming, and all of a piece (at least through two films).He could be playing us for fools, though. These cats are smart as hell.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:33 PM

This also seems like important #Graboid lore:

"They're getting smarter! That's what they do. They've got some kind of plan going on here..."

That tracks w/ what we already know. The #Graboids from #Tremors would be too smart to all get blown up sequentially by remote-controlled cars 🤓

#Tremors2 🧵

Grady Hooverdam says, of the Graboid that won't chase their noisemaking, "What the hell is the matter with him?""I don't like it, Grady. They're getting smarter. That's what they do." He has to keep saying Grady over and over, or tbh, I'd fucking forget it, and so would be probably. Earl: "They've got some kind of a plan going here..." Yeah! I love it. That's Graboid stuff, for sure. They're always up to something. You have to stay a few steps ahead of them, or they'll getcha.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:26 PM

The Graboids are *way* easier to kill in this one. It makes sense textually, though, bc they've triumphed over them once, and learned so much about them, etc.

It's the Aliens principle, and it's used to great effect here in #Tremors2. It feels satisfying & right they'd be good at this 🤩

#FilmSky 🎥

Given all of the limitations, no Reba, no Kevin Bacon, less than a quarter of the budget they were supposed to have starting out, etc. this is a very fun and watchable movie. It will be no trouble to tell people they should totally watch this one. It's a bit of fun! And I don't mind shifting some focus to Earl. He's a worthwhile character, too, and I'm rooting for him and Kate, who was checking his ass out earlier (and seemed to approve).BLAM! 50k to Burt Gummer. Probably needs it to get some MREs or whatever.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:20 PM

I'm sincerely, actually enjoying #Tremors2, fwiw. I did not expect to!

It's a lot of the same stuff, but there are also clever, pleasing subversions. If you're *going* to do a sequel (and you never should), this is how you competently do it, given limitations and strictures.

#FilmSky 🎥 #MovieSky 🎞️

You've got the little, Western musical stings (mixed with some south-of-the-border vibes early on; it's a pleasant melange, and it's nowhere near the quality of the first soundtrack, but it's close enough in spirit and quality to work) as they drive along desolate landscapes.And then they're mostly filming in the middle of nowhere near what appear to be actual abandoned buildings (or perhaps they built them, quickly and cheaply). This is a template for how the series could work; inexpensive to shoot, but with substance/quality and references back to the original work that are satisfying, not cheap/ugly. This all works! I'm pleasantly surprised, because it will not be hard to make a solid case for this movie.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:44 PM

Burt was always pretty fortunate to have Heather with him for even a time, I feel. This was inevitable 😬

I still totally care about these characters. I'm a little sad for Burt, even though I'm probably just as happy for Heather, who def has a new man by now if she wants one.

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

It is nice seeing Burt again. I think he's the lone consistent feature of all these, at one point playing his own ancestor in a prequel. Good for him! He's nice to see."Heather's not coming back." Yeah, Reba McEntire's, like, a huge star. Of course she's not.Earl sympathizes with Heather calling and saying to send her the HK-91 (a gun, I assume) (maybe referenced in the first film). It's nice to see these lads together again.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:33 PM

That's a good joke. We zoom slowly out from Burt in his depressed-single-guy armchair, and he's surrounded by ghoulish trophy-heads, including one of a Graboid 🤣

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

"Said I didn't know how to live without the threat of global war every day. What kind of thing is that to say to a man?" lol, if you have to come up with a reason Reba isn't in this, that's a little sad, but it makes sense. She was so vivacious and full of life. You could see Heather leaving Burt.Bahahaha, the slow zoom out is so funny as the ENORMOUS Graboid head comes into view.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:18 PM

"Not a lot of rocks and boulders out there. Not much to climb onto if we don't want to get slurped."

🤨

#Tremors2 🧵

"Yeah. Not a lot of rocks and boulders out there.""Not much to climb onto if we don't want to get slurped." I BEG YOUR PARDON Archer: "Uh, phrasing."
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:15 PM

Grady notices that Earl shaved, and points it out. Earl says, "A man can shave, cain't he?"

To which Grady replies, "No, you were right to. She's a babe."

That's pretty respectful. Like the first one, I think the M/F romance stuff is handled charmingly. It's cute, not ugly.

#FilmSky 📽️ #Tremors2 🧵

Grady is a HUGE step down from Val, though, we gotta be real about that. The movie knows it, too, and actually comments on that, as well, in a meta way that made me sad for that actor. He keeps having to say to to other characters, "I'm not the original other guy..."He's doing his best. They only had $4M and Fred Ward would have been a significant chunk of that based on being in the first one. Gross is back, too. I think this film has spent its money well, and it's also making meta narrative points about investing conservatively and building wisely through smart financial choices. It's woven into the story of this movie, and of it getting made at all.I find that charming. It's working for me. This movie also feels smart.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:09 PM

Still very vibey, with lots of loving shots of driving down open roads in the middle of nowhere. I enjoy that about the first one, and I enjoy that about this one.

The tone is right, it seems 🤔

"I hope you do not mind, Señor Monster Hunter, but we've taken the liberty of making you Aliens-style motion trackers for use with the Graboids."

A little bit of Lost World, a little bit of Aliens. This is a pastiche, but it's definitely fun 🤩

#FilmSky 🎥 #Tremors2 🧵

Tech guy banged up a Motion Tracker, and we're taking a similar approach to Aliens. This time we're prepared for them and going after them, etc.NO SEISMIC ACTIVITY (yet)Whoa, is this like that thing in the movie Aliens that just came out?Yeah, it's just like that, kid.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 9:51 PM

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH 🤣

Earl lasciviously checks out Kate's backside as she drops off some core samples, and then she does the same to him.

I maintain OG Tremors has STRONG #bisexual energy, and this seems much in the same spirit. Very egalitarian! I love it 🤩

#FilmSky 📽️ #Tremors2 🧵

@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 9:43 PM

Wikipedia says Kate White, but Ortega introduced her as Reilly... maybe she's recently divorced? We'll find out...

And then I imagine this is, like, a franchise rule going forward:

"Stuff like this only happens in the middle of nowhere!"

I bet that's always true. Part of the vibe 🤩

#Tremors2 🧵

More of Kate White/Reilly, whatever that's about."It sure is in the middle of nowhere!""Stuff like what happens in these films we're in only happens in the middle of nowhere! Make a note of that, going forward!"
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 9:19 PM

This is the meta of the whole #film, I think:

"Maybe this is your big second chance..."

Everyone is rich and famous off the 1st Tremors but Earl, who lost his bit on an ostrich farm (and ostriches that won't fuck).

... that's gotta be Steamship Wilson writing about himself, right? 🤔

#Tremors2

"Maybe this is your big second chance..." I think the screenwriter (and director) (and producer) SS Wilson is talking directly to us and himself with this.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 9:08 PM

"Graboids."

#iconic 🤩

So this is kind of a Lost World conceit, I guess. Val and Rhonda are happily married (we guess; Earl gives lip service to her being "a good woman" and their ostensible rivalry from the first film), which I like. Why not, if they're not back?

Graboids...

#FilmSky #Tremors2

Certain large underground animals...And he leans forward and says, "Graboids..." with so much weight, lol. It's silly, but fun. I don't mind this.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 8:57 PM

OOF! 😮‍💨

"Earl Bassett, right?"

Earl nods.

"Yeah, see, I told you. That's the other one."

JESUS, man, you didn't have to put that IN THE SCRIPT! We all miss Kevin Bacon, but Christ, that's way on the nose 😳

On the other hand, it pretty effectively sympathizes a lone Earl 🤣

#Tremors2 #FilmSky 📽️

"Hey! You're Earl Bassett, right?"Aside to his taxi fare: "Yeah, see, I told you. That's the other one." Jesus! That's fucking rough, lol. I bet Fred Ward read that line in the scripts, and was like 'wtf...'
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 8:48 PM

Whew, no foreplay whatsoever. Feels like they're saying, "Hey! If you don't know what a Graboid is, what the fuck are you even doing here?!"

Which, you know... I know what a Graboid is. So, let's rock n' roll!

#FilmSky 📽️ #Tremors2 🧵

I mean, this is a bit of a tease. You're like, what's he hanging from a rope? Nah, he's just scootin.Like so, to avoid the graboids."Shit, is he still there?"Yes, obviously. Here it comes! Rawr. Chompy-chompy! etc
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 8:24 PM

The story of budget being cut from $17M to $4M (that's not small in that era; that's a lot of $, still), which sees Reba unequivocally Nope out & Kevin Bacon 'intrigued,' but not enough to not do Apollo 13, is equal parts hilarious & sad 😅

Underwood an EP. How involved, tho? 🤔

S.S. WILSON

What an affectation, if your first two initials are S.S. or you pretend they are. It's like being a ship. The SS Wilson. I'm sure he or she thought that was so cute, and it's definitely a he (Steven Seth). I'm going to call him Steamship Wilson from now on, bc that's the Wikipedia entry that's closest to his and could be most easily confused with his.Directed By
S.S. WILSON

The maiden voyage of the Steamship Wilson 🫡Tremors 2: Aftershocks began production in 1993 when MCA Universal (feature films division) liked the script. The film was originally planned to be filmed in Australia on a 17-million-dollar budget, with the proposal that Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntire would both be returning. McEntire declined due to a major tour she had currently been on, and Bacon, while intrigued, ultimately turned it down to do Apollo 13. Due to the lack of star power and the mediocre box-office performance of the first film, the distribution and promotional costs for a theater release were considered too high, and the feature film division lost interest. The film was on the verge of being canceled entirely due to high costs when several actors and effects artists offered to lower their rates or do the jobs for free just to help the film get produced; this included S.S. Wilson, who offered to direct the film for free to save money on hiring another director.
