I will never get to be a young woman
Maybe a wise woman,
An attractive woman,
I may yet see my golden years,
Achieve goals I have here to yet see fulfilled,
But I will never get to be a young woman

Perhaps I should be grateful I survived long enough to be a woman at all
Proud even, or perhaps relieved,
And in some measure I am all those things
And more,
Yet there is that bitter sting,
I will never get to be a young woman

I can only but wonder how different my life may have been
Would I have been desired by many?
Unshackled by self loathing, I might have gone to parties
Or concerts, Or school dances,
Focused on something other than misery
But I will never to be a young woman

One could argue it happened when it was meant to,
Like all good things supposedly do
But I will never know the joys,
And sorrows of being a young woman,
Who then grows old
Because I will never get to be a young woman

You’ll say it’s not my fault,
How could I have known?
The tools were never given to me
Like that somehow makes the bitter ache in my heart abate,
Or salves the reality
I will never get to be a young woman…
