over the next two weeks, watch for the sunset Torontohenge (see ALT text for why)

there are four Torontohenges each year --

Feb 15 (+) sunset
Apr 19 (+) sunrise
Aug 23 (–) sunrise
Oct 25 (–) sunset

(+) good pics for a week or so after
(–) good pics for a week or so before

#Torontohenge

imagine you are facing west along one of Toronto's east-west-aligned streets... in the fall, as we proceed from the summer equinox towards the winter solstice, the sun sets a little further to the south each day, i.e. to the left, than the day before... this means that it appears over the street a little lower each day for a week or so before the October Torontohenge, until on that day it appears to set right into the street

I will be contributing to the #TOPhoto feed as much as possible. My first entry is my attempt to capture morning #TorontoHenge that didn’t work because the sky had other ideas.

The CN Tower and downtown buildings as seen from the Bathurst bridge over the rail yard at dawn. An UP train is leaving Union Station. The sky is full of orange clouds in a ruffle pattern that looks purple in the areas not lit up by the sun.
