For Tolktober days 1, 2 & 3.

Moon | Forest | Necromancer

Illustration of Dol Guldur from the Hobbit by JRR Tolkie. An evil hill-top fortress vignetted by twisted, leafless trees. The fortress overlooks a forest canopy with black butterflies above it. In the distance is a lonely mountain, an even further mountain range and behind a gap a volcano.

A stone staircase leads up to the fortress door which is glowing from the inside. Cruel windows resemble spider eyes and fangs. Two turrets with crenelations that look like raised hands. One of the crenelations is broken off. On top is a henge of 5 stones with 4 shadowy figures between them. An altar in the centre of the 9 shapes. A crescent, ringlike moon is eclipsing the central stone.
There are 9 stars in the red sky.

Hidden in the top branches are the words Dol Guldur.

Colour combination of red and teal overlapping risograph style.

Did you know that the name Dol Guldur is not used in the Hobbit but is mentioned in the Lord of the Rings as a dwelling place of Shelob's brood.
