Back with another Jack story....water, water everywhere.

Thanks for reading❣️

#WrittenReels 📚
#TinyStories

Square social-media poster on a mostly white background designed to look soaked by large clear water droplets and splashes. In the upper right is a faded photo of a broken water main spraying a huge geyser into the air beside roadwork equipment and traffic cones. The story recalls the writer’s friend Jack, previously known for joking that too much salad might make him bleat. Jack sends a photo of the burst main after road workers damage it, leaving most of his city without water. The next morning, with the water still off, he says he has to “head water.” The writer explains that in the Caribbean, “heading water” means carrying water home in buckets or other containers, a phrase rooted in the days when people collected water from village standpipes and often carried it on their heads. She asks, “Really? You have to head water in this day and age?” Jack laughs and replies, “Yes. And imagine, I’m heading water in a Tesla.” Along the bottom are five colourful book covers by Ilis Trudie Palmer: Chronicles of an Awakening Soul, Let the Sun Shine on My Face, Dancing Between Tall Grass, She Sits and Shells Peas, and Woke to Joy.

This photo I took some time ago might actually be his great, or great great grand father. 😊
The males have the flaming orange chest while the females are all brown.

A short reflective story about feeding a familiar black-and-orange bird for years, then telling him she is moving and trusting that nature will continue to take care of him.

Thank you for reading. ❤️

Square poster styled as a white paper towel roll hanging from a holder. The story is printed on the hanging sheet and reflects on thanking the body for carrying us through sleep, another day, aches, pains, and everyday experiences. It ends by asking, “Have you thanked your body today? If not, do so now.” A faint watermark on the right shows bare feet at the edge of the sea as waves wash over dark sand. Along the bottom are five colourful book covers by Ilis Trudie Palmer

Thanks for reading ❤️

Square social-media poster on a plain white background. The story text fills most of the page. On the right are three faded images: a Caribbean beach, a plate of stewed meat with rice and macaroni salad, and a large green salad. The story is about the writer’s friend Jack, previously known for saying an avocado tasted “like stale water” and for sending her a giant iguana image despite her fear of lizards. This time, Jack says he had to force himself to finish a large salad while sitting uncomfortably in his car at the beach. He jokes that the salad tasted mostly like leaves and that he felt as if he might start bleating. The writer laughs and tells him that if the meal had been stewed oxtail, rice and peas, and macaroni pie, he probably would not have needed to force himself. Five colourful book covers by Ilis Trudie Palmer line the bottom.

Square poster designed like a torn page from an old spiral notebook, with blue ruled lines, worn edges and punched holes down the left side. A faint watermark on the right shows a smiling woman in dark sunglasses with braces. The story begins, “You gone and get braces at your old age?” and reflects on friends wondering why the writer chose braces after fifty. She explains that she had thought about doing it for 25 years and finally decided the time was right: “The time was now… So I did it.” Five colourful Ilis Trudie Palmer book covers line the bottom of the page.

Square poster with a warm tropical setting. On the left, a photo of Ilis Trudie Palmer in white, seated outdoors in profile with long locks, surrounded by lush greenery. On the right, a reflective prose piece about standing before a mirror, noticing thinning gray hair, hearing a familiar ringing in the left ear, and thinking about aging, beauty, and spiritual signs. The piece ends with the insight that signs do not come when we anxiously wait for them, but when they are ready. Along the bottom is a row of five book covers by Ilis Trudie Palmer.

Alt text: Square poster set against a bright Caribbean scene with blue sky, sea, green hills, tropical foliage, ripe mangoes hanging from a tree, and a bowl of yellow-red mangoes. The story tells of the writer’s friend Jack, whom regular readers may remember as the man who sends her pictures of giant iguanas despite her fear of lizards and who once described an avocado as tasting “like stale water.”

This time, Jack sends her a photo of four yellow, tree-ripened mangoes. Because mangoes are out of season and neither she, her neighbours nor her friends have any, the sight makes her so jealous she jokes that she wants to wring his neck.

Jack is clearly enjoying the mangoes and turns the eating experience into cricket commentary. After one mango he says, “The batting opened good.” After another, “The middle order was solid and the back end finished strong.” Finally he concludes, “It was a good innings.”

The writer laughs and tells him it is obvious he enjoyed the mangoes and that next time he should save some and ship them to her.

Along the bottom of the poster are five colourful book covers by Ilis Trudie Palmer: Chronicles of an Awakening Soul, Let the Sun Shine on My Face, Dancing Between Tall Grass, She Sits and Shells Peas, and Woke to Joy.

I prefer reading to watching videos, but I confess, I enjoy shorts and reels because they're, well...short. 😀

So I'm experimenting: can I make tiny stories for those of us who love to read, but enjoy the brevity of shorts?

The words and experiences shared are 110% mine.

Thoughts?

A richly illustrated story poster set against a dreamlike moonlit tropical seascape, with glowing, human-like winged figures in the sky. The story describes the writer’s unusual experiences with beings she associates with aliens or UAPs, including an earlier experience she believes involved healing and a recent dream in which human-like figures reminded her of bees. Five of her book covers appear along the bottom.

I had a bad dream inside a bad dream, or a bad dream followed by a false waking. My inner child was more whiny than Peter Pan, and 1000% more obscene.

Later, just before I woke up, I had three cats, and sunflowers like triffids.

Everything about her is lopsided, from her lazy eye to her gait that rolls inwards. Walking in her shoes may unbalance me, but everyone should have at least one good story where they are the hero.

Square poster featuring a reflective prose piece over a soft tropical roadside background with sea, hills, palms, and village houses. The text tells of giving a father and son a lift to a prize-giving ceremony, hearing the father proudly describe the boy’s perfect marks in maths and science, and then realizing the quiet child carries the same burden the writer once carried: being the bright poor child expected to save family and community. Along the bottom, five of Ilis Trudie Palmer’s book covers form a border: Chronicles of an Awakening Soul, Let the Sun Shine on My Face, Dancing Between Tall Grass, She Sits and Shells Peas, and Woke to Joy.

A playful Caribbean pear-season rivalry leads to one especially disappointing avocado, memorably described by Jack as tasting “like stale water.” The tiny story turns that odd little moment into a humorous truth: sometimes you eat it for the fibre and nutrients anyway.
