The government has refused to say whether the disability minister was told that a member of the steering group reviewing #PIP was about to publish a report calling for spending on disability benefits for children to be slashed.

Right now is the time to challenge Timms review

The utter failure to genuinely consult with disabled claimants, let alone co-produce the report, is grounds for objections right now

"Right now" is the time to challenge the #TimmsReview, says Benefits and Work.

Tell your MP that there hasn't been real consultation with disabled people and you want your MP to be clear about this when the final report is published.

Timms Review rebellion: reject youth disability cuts

In South Wales last week, Disabled people, including #DPAC members and allies, asserted control of the #TimmsReview workshop to send a positive message of defiance.

A graphic about the Timms Review. Over the official government colours is the word "rebellion!" in ransom-style newspaper cut-out letters on a ripped scrap of paper. Two scraps of paper are presented below. The first is a newspaper clipping saying "Disabled people issue 'direct warning' over proposed benefit cuts for under-22s" with a black and white photo and some text about how attendees in Cardiff forced a vote over proposed cuts. The second scrap of paper is lined. Above, a caption says: "During the workshop, participants unanimously approved a counter-recommendation." The paper itself says, in a handwritten font: "That the PIP process works for you, whatever age you are, whatever condition or impairment you might have, whatever class you are, whatever ethnicity you are, whatever your circumstances." There are decorative foreground details such as a paperclip and tape. One of the pieces of tape is red, adding a rebellious splash of colour.

Labour's obsession with 'working' families means they have a chronic dislike of working-age disability benefits. This below was typical of the Blair govt. Plus ca change? #Timmsreview #pip

@robtomsk.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 10:02 AM

Lewis,
According to the Guardian, Independent and Mirror today, Labour are about to repeat their mistakes on #pip despite the #timmsreview There is no moral basis to cut PIP for under 24s unless the mental health, employment support and humane processes to assess non/work populations are in place.

@robtomsk.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 9:03 AM

Have those consultees involved in the #timmsreview really been pushing for this loss of PIP for under 25s? Or was the review a smokescreen for Milburn's 'work is the panacea' idea?

@robtomsk.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 6:44 AM

If true, this is a total PIP muddle by HMGovt. Surely Motability application is exactly the sort of transfer of PIP cash for an approved service that they are otherwise encouraging. Bizarre. Cruel. #Timmsreview #pip

The minister leading a government review of personal independence payment has refused four times to rule out cuts to spending, but he has promised no disabled person will be forced to accept products or services instead of cash.

The entire Timms PIP review is a shambolic sham. There has never been or intended to be real co production with disabled people at all. These workshops mute ideas (worded as a way to get support for cuts

@robtomsk.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 8:38 PM

Timms example of a disabled person struggling to get a 'rise/fall' bed is an example of his muddle on basic facts. If clinical need is established, the NHS has a duty to provide this. Why the 'feck' is he using this as an example of flexible PIP use? Real ignorance. Scary. #TimmsReview #PIP

At our Timms Review workshop we sent a direct message to Stephen Timms. Participants held an indicative ballot and unanimously voted to reject Labour's dreams of cutting disability benefits for under 22s.
