A large antique hourglass stands upright in a dark, shadow-filled setting, illuminated by warm amber and golden light. Inside the upper glass chamber, two ghostly human faces emerge from the suspended grains and textured surface. Their profiles face one another at extremely close range, eyes closed, their lips nearly touching as if caught forever at the instant before a kiss. Wisps resembling long hair drift outward beyond the glass, dissolving into the surrounding darkness. Fine particles sparkle throughout the chamber and fall toward the narrow waist of the hourglass.

Below them, the lower bulb glows more brightly. A solitary spectral face appears within it, partially obscured by swirling dust and accumulated sand. The face looks downward and slightly to the side, giving the impression of a memory that has already passed from the upper chamber into the lower one. The hourglass rests on a dusty surface scattered with grains and illuminated haze. Its thin vertical supports and aged metal frame catch narrow streaks of gold. Deep shadows dominate the background, while a blurred curved form rises at the right, leaving the hourglass and its three enclosed faces as the unmistakable focus. The monochromatic sepia palette, floating particles, worn glass, and dramatic low-key illumination give the scene the appearance of an old photograph preserving people inside the physical passage of time.
