#ThursdaysInBlack to assure men that it’s easy not to commit rape and gender-based violence. Don’t rape. Don’t harm. Easy.

And to grieve for those who suffer because men do horrible things. #HCUCCTiB

Thursdays in Black? Yes! Join with the World Council of Churches in speaking out against gender-based violence. www.oikoumene.org/what-we-do/t... #ThursdaysInBlack #WCC @oikoumenewcc.bsky.social

Screenshot of a post on X from the World Council of Churches (WCC), @Oikoumene. The post reads: "Members of the WCC Commission on Ecumenical Education and Formation meeting at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey this week took a joint stand in the global #ThursdaysinBlack campaign by showing solidarity against sexual and gender-based violence. Photo: Marcelo Schneider/WCC." Below the text is a photo of about 14 people posing indoors, most dressed in black and wearing conference lanyards and small pins. In the center front, a person in a wheelchair wears a clerical collar. Several others also wear clerical collars, and a bearded man on the right wears Orthodox clerical dress with a pectoral cross. Behind the group are an icon painting of a tree with figures in its branches and a framed medallion. A grand piano is at the left edge of the frame.

#ThursdaysInBlack because we tell women to protect themselves and we do not effectively tell men they should not commit rape or gender-based violence. And so we end up with women suffering like the one at my own alma mater, Cornell. I’m horrified. I wish I were surprised. #HCUCCTiB
