Most of this stuff to do with getting onto and exploring The Thing's spaceship feels like it was cribbed directly from The X-Files movie, which might have done it better, too 🤔

This is all kinda works for me. Idk why people are so down on this movie. It looks like shit at times, but it was 2011, lots of things did.

Too much of this movie is too dark. That's a legitimate criticism. You can't see a goddamned thing for about a third of the runtime of Thing2011.

He's still very conscious and aware. We hear his gasps and see his eye blinking as he recognizes her and asks her for help. Hopefully she just lights his ass on fire, for his good and hers.

If you were to watch it having no idea this guy's face was about to split open and he was going to turn into a PS2 Gods of War miniboss, it would be an effective subversion, but holy shit are the SFX not it here 😬

This is, like, the one thing I knew for sure for sure about this movie (this, and the computer guy with the human other guy's face at the end), but the way the scene is constructed, you're meant to be suspicious of the other guy on the helicopter, who seems anxious to be away. It kind of works, until the wheels come off when his head opens up.
