💚 Today is World Mental Health Day

This year's theme reminds us that listening is only the beginning.

People with lived experience have valuable expertise. Their voices should not only be heard - they should help shape the services, policies, and decisions that affect their lives.

🚨 Strangulation is not harmless.

It can cause serious injury, loss of consciousness and, in some cases, death.

It also raises important questions around consent, as it can affect someone’s ability to think, communicate and withdraw consent.

-"They choked me"

-No. They strangled you. Infographic explaining the difference: “Choking” = internal airway blockage (e.g., choked on a grape); “Strangulation” = external compression cutting off air or blood flow using hands, arms, or an object (e.g., someone strangled me).Warning triangle and heading "What can happen?" stating "Strangulation is dangerous," followed by bullets listing effects: neck pain; trouble breathing or swallowing; seeing stars, blurred or lost vision; ringing or lost hearing; passing out; wetting or soiling yourself; and death.Slide titled "The question of consent" warning that strangulation is dangerous and cannot legally be consented to in Scotland, and that informed consent is unreliable because strangulation’s risks are unpredictable, with prohibition icons beside "Dangerous" and "Informed."

Rape culture starts in everyday attitudes.

It can be found in sexist jokes, victim-blaming, harassment, and attitudes that excuse sexual violence.

We can all challenge these behaviours and help create a culture of consent, respect, and support for survivors.

The only person responsible for an act of sexual violence is the perpetrator

👓️You shouldn't have to know where the camera is to know your boundaries matter.

Smart glasses show how technology can create new ways for sexual harassment, abuse, and violence to happen.

We need better safeguards and accountability.

Preventing sexual violence saves lives. ❤️

When we listen, believe survivors, challenge harmful attitudes and talk about consent, we help create a world where people feel safer, supported and less alone.
