#SpringOfTheBlade 🤝 #TheDouble

Yes, as with kdramas a lot of people start with contemporary cdramas - they are certainly more accessible than many historical shows

Though recently I’ve heard of a lot of people getting hooked on #PursuitOfJade or #TheDouble, so it’s difficult to say for sure what will work for each person

I’m thinking:

#Reset for a short thriller
#MysteriousLotusCasebook for wuxia/action/mystery
#TheDouble for a glamorous historical revenge
#LoveOfTheDivineTree for fantasy
#PursuitOfJade or #WonderlandOfLove for historical adventure/romance

Yes, good suggestion 👍 - I should have thought of #TheDouble, because it has a great blend of tension, revenge plotting, action, & strong visuals

And it’s on Netflix too, which means they don’t have to reach for a new streaming subscription! 🙂

I think #TheDouble is a relatively accessible historical C-drama for someone who’s new to the genre. It’s gripping and visually pleasing, with excellent performances by all the main cast. And although there is romance, the revenge and court intrigue are the main plot threads. It’s on Netflix too!

She was brilliant in this episode 🤩🥹- & yes, I completely agree; it acts as a kind of redemption or healing arc for those of us who saw her in #TheDouble

36 was the best episode yet, in a drama full of amazing episodes.

Honestly, it’s also a spiritual healing for those of us spurned by the treatment of Princess Wanning in #TheDouble

The evil Dad is something else. That smooth snaky smile *shudder*. The best villain in Cdrama yet? And SPOILER (sort of) terrific scene: the Red Funeral. The story is briliant. Would wish for better leads but nothing's perfect. This is #TheDouble without chemistry.

Oooh I didn't know that #LiMeng who played the delightfully unhinged Princess Wan Ning in #TheDouble is also in #AgainsttheCurrent, playing a remarkably similar character #cdrama. 🤭

I need a new drama with him that makes me swoon like #TheDouble

So, this five day national strike from my university has actually free up some of my time and I managed to watch #SpringOfTheBlade. Here’s my first impressions:

- This #cdrama is definitely the cousin of #TheDouble
- #XuKai slays.
- I still think #ZhouYe is better suited for modern day roles.

It’s good but not as good as Against The Current. And its entire vibe is lit like #TheDouble, while I would compare ATC to the Story of Minglan.

Reflecting on #AgainstTheCurrent, I want to distinguish sharply between ‘revenge’ & ‘reclamation’ 🙂

A short #cdrama 🧵:

Revenge dramas, for me, have the original injustice as a central driving force from the start: the protagonist consciously sets out to punish those responsible (eg, #TheDouble)

All I can say is #LiMeng chews her scenes and has a stranglehold over me the same way she did as Princess Wanning in #TheDouble.

Her character in #AgainstTheCurrent was made for her, for real. I don’t know if anyone else can play her with such duality.

Seriously, I need to find her other shows

She was the crazy 3rd Princess in #TheDouble. I'm not sure I was ready for her again after just finishing that one. 🙄

And of course we know how brilliantly #LiMeng our evil princess from #TheDouble can knock being a villain right out of the park. Our poor FL is in for a lot of pain. 😬I'm already biting my nails.
