My poem titled Flutter. … A butterfly passed me by, slowly, as if scanning who I was, and flew away like it knew— when even I don’t know who I am. In this hospital bed, who can I be? I only know what I wish to feel. I wish to feel the world’s heartbeat, from my head in the clouds, to my feet tickled by grass. A landscape painted in my pupils, carved into my long term memory. I want to feel the flutter of everything… to know the world is alive with me.

My poem titled Tissues. … With a pocket full of tissues, I walk to our meeting place. Leaving the restaurant behind, I pull one out and use it. With a pocket full of tissues, I make my way to where we first met, and use another. With a pocket half full of tissues, our first date spot comes into view, and another one is used. When I arrive home, with two empty pockets, I tell myself the truth. I wanted to be with you… nothing more than that.

My poem titled Beautiful Gift. … Time is passing every hour, every second in a minute. Hands separate to say goodbye— while others are held to say farewell. A minute, a moment is all it takes, for a life to flip on its side. Such a beautiful gift we’ve been given, but if only— if only for a moment… we could see it as such.

I had an appointment with my doctor, and we’re now prepping to have my bone marrow transplant surgery done next year around summertime.

My poem titled Continuity. … People come and go, as if they’re chasing cars— much to our dismay. But I have learned something recently. There’s someone who will shed tears for me, someone will turn my world upright again. So as a gift for them, I will give them one thing. Continuity… when it seems like everyone else has left.

My poem titled Visage. … We search for a time we’ve already lived, in hopes of feeling young again. Trying to fly in the sky once more— instead of taking heavy steps forward. Some days feel heavier here and there, others weigh down on our hearts, ever so gently. But it’s not just all heavy weight. So when you wipe the foggy mirror, with your trembling hand. will you see a smiling face… or a drained-out visage?

My poem titled Waves. … I stand in front of the ocean’s shoreline. My earbuds fall out of my ears, and as I reach down, I notice— it’s eerily silent. The rustling leaves, people chasing cars, passing trains over rivers, I hear it all… but the waves are silent. If they could make a noise, I wonder what they would sound like… the waves drifting in the sky.

My poem titled Ticking Clock. … Tension. Unease. Anxiety. Each tick of the clock would pull them near. Massaging the webs near my thumbs, scanning the room for no reason, tightness on my chest and shoulders. I’d feel it all, sitting on the armchair. Still, on the day you reached out to me, and told me it would be okay… the clock stopped ticking.

My poem titled Frozen Nights. … A streetlight with drooping icicles— the first thing I see leaving the house. My breath pushing through thin air, as I walk to the convenience store. Sliding doors having to be parted open, an apology not needed but heard. The fever medicine in my hand, the beep from the register. It’s cold outside, the room inside told me so. So as you’re healing from your cold… I’ll keep you warm in these frozen nights.
