#TechTipThursday: let git find the commit that broke it.

Something worked three weeks ago and doesn't now, and there are two hundred commits in between. Stop reading diffs:

git bisect start
git bisect bad
git bisect good abc1234

Git checks out the midpoint […]

#TechTipThursday: stop committing five unrelated things at once.

You fixed a bug, renamed a variable, and left a debug line in there. git add . takes all of it. Instead:

git add -p

Git walks the change hunk by hunk and asks about each one. y to stage it, n […]

#TechTipThursday: you didn't actually lose that commit.

Bad rebase, hard reset, deleted branch. Before you panic:

git reflog

It's a log of everywhere HEAD has been, including commits that aren't on any branch anymore. Find the hash from before things went […]

If your flue temperature is too hot, ensure the recirculation loop is connected to the provided port. Tying it into the cold line on a condensing unit can cause high exhaust temperatures and loss of efficiency.

#TechTipThursday: stop losing long jobs to a dropped SSH session.

Before you kick off that big rsync:

tmux new -s migration

It runs on the server, not in your terminal. Ctrl+b then d to detach, close the laptop, walk away. Come back with tmux attach -t […]

Stop drowning in logs:

journalctl -p err -b

Every error from the current boot, nothing else. Add -u nginx -f to follow one service live.

Logs are like receipts. Useless until you desperately need one.

#TechTipThursday: installing NVIDIA drivers on Fedora.

Skip the .run file from NVIDIA's site. Enable RPM Fusion nonfree, then:

sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia

Give it a few minutes to build before you reboot. Secure Boot? You'll need to sign it.
