An autumnal view on the walking trail by the side of a forest and tarn at Talkin Tarn Country Park, Brampton, Cumbria, England on a mostly cloudy October day.
Low-hanging, arching deciduous tree branches create a natural green-and-gold canopy and tunnel over the trail.
They almost fill the picture and have leaves in various shades of green, yellow, and copper, with many fallen leaves covering the ground.
The path is carpeted with copper coloured leaves.
On the left is a glimpse of the glacial tarn next to the path.
Any light through the dense leaves is quite dull from the cloud cover apart from a glimpse of sky on the left of the picture.
Talkin Tarn is a kettle-hole lake formed by the immense force of glaciers 18,000 years ago. Moving ice scoured and carved the landscape leaving glacial sand hills and a natural bowl, which filled with water as the ice sheet melted.
The name Talkin is derived from the Celtic 'Talcan' meaning brow of a hill.
