Balancing strength and vibration control is key in #3Dprinted composites.

This study found that #talc-reinforced #stereolithography resins increased stiffness & damping but reduced toughness, linking material flow behaviour to vibration performance.

My library and I have cancelled each other out today for #MinCup26. I voted for #Talc; my patrons went for #Stichtite (albeit by a slim margin).

Talc can form underground through metamorphism of minerals like serpentinite. When that happens in fault zones, the mineral can weaken faults and affect whether they creep, slip slowly, or rupture quickly.

With that #FunFact, #talc gets our vote today! #MinCup26 eos.org/research-spo...

Today it's #Talc against #Stichtite at #MinCup26 😻 This is easy for us Talc is representating the fluffy end of the Moths scale that measures the hardness of a #mineral πŸ™€πŸ˜Ή
Being fluffy is one of the supaw powers of #cats
So #DoesItCat ? YES🐾

Ooo, pretty purple but, sorry, got to go with the actual representative on Mohs Hardness Scale. Plus, it powdered many a tushie once upon a time 😁

Fun fact about #talc! Johnson & Johnson knew that it was impossible to mine it without asbestos contamination and thus carcinogenic all the way back in the 1960s but they didn't finally take their talc baby powders off the shelves until 2019!

Tempted to vote for #talc just from the amount of time I've spent trying to get some. I heard talc powder made a great mold release agent and wanted to try it out, only problem is that since the J&J thing it is hard to find from a reputable source in less than multi-pound quantities.

Wow, #Stichtite looks so pretty, but I had to vote for #Talc, because of its importance in soapstone. I have to wonder if stichtite ever shows up in soapstones too?

What's up with so many similar minerals being put up against each other in #MinCup26? Today we have #Stichtite taking on #Talc - both layered with magnesium units making up one of the layers. Stichtite a little confused where it's carbonate should go - so today's vote is for ordered talc!

Image representing the crystal structure of stichtite - here red spheres represent oxygen atoms, orange spheres/polygons represent magnesium atoms , light blue spheres/white represent carbon atoms (that make up CO3 carbonate groups) and pink spheres represent hydrogen atoms. The representation is shown along the structures b axis is drawn in VESTA from entry #18330 in the American mineralogist databaseImage representing the (idealised) crystal structure of talc - here red spheres represent oxygen atoms, orange spheres/polygons represent magnesium atoms and blue spheres/polygons represent silicon atoms.
