From the 1862 series "Mécanisme de la physiologie humaine" by Guillaume Duchenne de Boulogne, at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris.

Reading these feels like catching up a tiny bit with my lack of ever reading Simondon (or any philosophy for that matter) in a collective setting.

Two books in a train, both by Jean-Hugues Barthélémy: "Penser l'individuation, Simondon et la philosophie de la nature", and "Penser la connaissance et la technique après Simondon".

Last week in Mannheim I encountered this great 2003 reprint of the 1928 German edition of Georgius Agricola's "De Re Metallica" originally from 1556, an early reference on the art, science, philosophy and economics of mining and chemistry.

Finally all the tools are working (or at least for long enough to be useful), but for now the experiment still isn't... Which bit of tacit knowledge am I still missing ?

Some devices on a table, two of them have numerical displays, the top shows '500' and '500' (degrees C), the lower device shows 790 (Volt) and 0.46 (mA). The device in front has small windows that allow to see through it. A white reflective surface is mounted behind it, and a camera set up in front of it.

Some of the individuals generated during the (very basic) helicopter-seeds inspired hands-on evolutionary algorithms workshop today at the minor ArtScience at KASK.

In between all the other stuff I did manage to prepare for version seven of my setup, combining the approach of version five with some wisdom acquired through version six.

The inside of a small oven. A contraption can be seen involving heater wires wound around smooth, white material. Above it a large steel clamp with a sandwich of various materials and components.

Yuk Hui's talk at V2 some days ago made me want to reread this little book by Gilles Chatelet, and especially the furious rant against the chaos theorists that it contains... from 1998.

Almost ready for testing version six !

A device vaguely resembling a ceramics kiln standing on a work bench. The device is open, inside heating wires can be seen, and above it a steel clamp that is connected to wires and which holds a cubic crystal.

Aaaaaaand finally all pieces managed to fit together, so in principle we're ready to retry reproducing the Salt Transistor experiment. Let's hope that if it fails, it at least fails in an interesting way !

Finally getting around again to causing some actual progress towards version five !

#otherSemiconductors #TheSaltTransistor #79 #SystemsThatMatter

A device that resembles a small ceramics kiln, open on a workbench and seen from above. The device is made of slabs of white material inside a metal frame. Ceramic screw terminals can be seen and an assemblage of heating wires wrapped around sheets of smooth, white material.
