Gave my first and only conference talk this year at #swiftCon in Berlin.
Honestly, didn't expect such a huge turnout and Q&A engagement for a fairly obscure and code-heavy topic. I feel incredibly grateful and energised! Happy to see European #swiftlang community going as strong as ever💪

A new Swift compiler-design thread explores type-based lifetime scopes for ~Escapable values. The design aims to infer many scope arguments. Still compiler design, not a shipped feature. #SwiftLang

Swift optional binding is more than a nil check. It creates a safe local value in the part of the code where Swift knows it exists.

Swift 6.4 can fail to statically link Foundation on Linux. A fresh SwiftPM plugin report reproduced it, and the issue is already tracked with a fix expected in the next release branch. #SwiftLang #ServerSideSwift

Swift Build becoming the default in Swift Package Manager sounds like a small tooling change, but I like the direction. The same build system across macOS, Linux, and Windows means one less platform difference to think about. #SwiftLang

Swift's Decimal may get modern APIs for rounding, scale, conversions and more. A key detail: arithmetic and rounding can happen in one operation, avoiding double rounding. Still a pitch.

Swift `guard` is more than a shorter `if`.

It says: this must be true for the current scope to continue. If execution gets past it, Swift knows the requirement was met, and successful optional bindings stay available.

Nuke can share in-flight downloads and processing across image requests while each caller keeps its own cancellation and priority.

I looked at how its task pools and stage-specific keys make that work.

Swift is reviewing Span.init(ofOne:): a span over one value. It lets Span-based APIs handle a single value without allocating a temporary collection or falling back to unsafe buffer code.

A new Swift pitch adds bulk updates to MutableSpan: copy, repeat and move elements without dropping to unsafe buffers. For bitwise-copyable values, copying can lower to memcpy. Pitch only.

Developing cloud services in Swift (#swiftlang) just got a major boost, with extensive (I mean, really an absurdly large number of APIs) Google SDK support - cloud.google.com/blog/topics/...

Lean on swiftly to install a toolchain, and then lean on the Google Cloud SDKs they've just made available!
