PEOPLE:
- Kenji Eno, age 26. Musician and game designer.
- Shigeru Miyamoto, age 43. Creator of Zelda, Mario, & more.

QUOTE:
Eno: With Mario's jump, if you hold the A button down past a certain duration, it feels like you get a slight extra bit of distance at the very end, almost like a special bonus. It feels as if a separate jumping equation kicks in and pushes Mario horizontally.

Miyamoto: We don't actually do that. What happens is that the moment you release the button, we increase the gravity slightly. Because of that, the trajectory feels different depending on whether you hold the A button to the very end or let go halfway through.

PEOPLE:
- Koji Kondo, age 29. Composer for Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.

QUOTE:
Kondo: I first wait for the game concept and image to be decided on, and for some actual in-game screenshots to be finished. I then start thinking about the music based on that. Normally, I try to write the main theme of the game first.

With Super Mario Bros., though, I had a really hard time finding that theme, and the first thing I finished was actually the water level theme. I felt a waltz would be the right sound for an underwater level. That idea came to me in a flash of inspiration, but that’s an exception for me.
